THE WORLD AROUND US

CLIMATE CHANGE

 Climate change is a change in the usual weather found in a place.

This could be a change in how much rain a place usually gets in a
year. Or it could be a change in a place's usual temperature for a
month or season.
 Climate change is already happening and represents one of the
greatest environmental, social and economic threats facing the
planet.
 The climate change is caused by pollution and it has consequences
like desertification, lack of water, drought and other problems.
CAUSES

Natural Causes
 Volcanic Eruptions- volcano releases sulfur, dioxide, water vapour,
dust and ash
 Continental Drift - shift of the continents ensures changes - ice breaks
and melts
 Earth Orbital Changes- earths orbit around the sun is an ellipse but
she changes shape - when the earth is closer to the sun our climate
is warmer
CAUSES

Human Causes
 Energy Industry - most of the greenhouse gas emissions - brown coal
power emit more CO2 than modern stations
 Traffic - large amount of burned oil is problematic - number of cars
growing daily
 Deforestation - forests store CO2 and transform CO2 – burning down
forests causes CO2 emissions - forest can no longer produce oxygen
CONSEQUENCES

 More droughts and heat waves

 Changes in precipitation patterns
 Temperatures will continue to rise
 Hurricanes will become stronger and more intense
 Frost-free season (and growing season) will lengthen
 Sea level will rise 1-4 feet by 2100, Arctic is likely to become ice-free
WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP

 Be energy efficient
 Choose renewable power
 Trim your waste (reduce, re-use, recycle)
 Eat wisely (reduce meat, transport and convenience food)
