Communication
- students are more ready to communicate in the target language when
the video is used

Non-verbal language
- psychologists say that almost 80% of our communication is non-
verbal. Gesture, expressions, postures corresponding with certain
utterances, these things are not visible when studying only from a
coursebook
Cross-cultural communication
- we can observe the differences between cultures, so we can be more
natural when we happen to be in an alien community
Pros and cons
Pros:
- we can use video at every level

- we can use it for practicing vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation,

intonation etc.
- student don´t think of video as a teaching material

- once the lesson is prepared it can be used in whatever class we want,

because this activities are very flexible
Cons:
- it takes a lot of time to prepare a lesson based on video,
sometimes it is even extremely time consuming
- a teacher should be skillful with technology, students don't
like when teachers are all thumbs and it makes them nervous
Some basic techniques

Sound off – vision on (silent viewing)

- shot exchange of dialogs

- students predicts the dialogs and then their predictions are compared
with the original dialogs

Sound on – vision off

- students´ task is to guess the setting or action

- students are searching for certain words

- students are given comprehension questions

- students are given paraphrases and the should recognize direct speech
as they view
- completing the gaps

- students are given a list of items and should decide which were and
which weren´t in the sequence

• I am going to play the sequence (the video) for the first time and you
should just watch it and think about a dialog
• I am going to play it for the second time, but I will pause the video
each time someone speaks and you will write into the worksheets
what you think they are saying
• Compare the original dialogs with the students answers

After watching we will check the colors of the items you

will have ticked.
Video is a perfect device for practicing present continuous

or we can also focus on the cultural differences and practice
