The past continuous is used for actions that were happening at a specific time in the past .

PAST CONTINUOUS

• the continuous past does not specify whether the actions ended or not, but emphasizes
that they were in development
• However, we can use the past continuous to emphasize that the action took place
temporarily.
• In stories or stories the past continuous is used to describe or set an action.

• The simple past describes finished actions.


• For simultaneous actions:
If the actions are consecutive, the verbs will go in the past simple.
• To talk about habitual actions, the simple past is usually used.

• The verbs ending in -e simply add a -d .

• The monosyllable verbs ending in a vowel followed by a single consonant or the


accentuated verb verbs in the last syllable, duplicate the final consonant by adding -ed .

• Verbs ending in -l preceded by a single vowel duplicate the final -l in British English.

• Verbs ending in -and preceded by consonant change -y to -i and add -ed .
