Problem statement
Need for DFIG
◦ DFIG technology allows extracting maximum energy from the wind
◦ Low power rating converters

Need for Constant Power Operation

◦ Due to varying wind nature there will be power fluctuations in the
grid, which may result in degrading power system stability
◦ To effectively participate in frequency and active power regulation,
unit commitment, economic dispatch, and electricity market operation.
Need for Reactive power support
◦ To make DFIG stay connected during low voltage conditions
◦ To make unity power pf possible

2014 IEEE - INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MAGNETICS MACHINES & DRIVES 12

Objective
To use electric vehicle to provide reactive power support and storage for
DFIG
To develop control for decoupled control of active and reactive power of
vehicle

2014 IEEE - INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MAGNETICS MACHINES & DRIVES 13

Project description
Electric vehicles is connected to DFIG(Doubly fed induction generator)
based wind farm connected power system where it can provide reactive
power support during faults
Electric vehicle can also act as controllable generator or load during
wind power variations
Control is achieved by means of independent real and reactive power
control of vehicle side controller
