Lesson Plan - Informal Greetings and Farewells

◈ Students will practise situation- ­based dialogs
based on informal greetings and farewells. Since
the intonation might differ in the Indian and the
American context, this lesson plan uses Youglish
to scaffold varying pronunciation, intonation and
register while delivering a short text on greeting
and farewell. The emphasis will be on realism and
naturalness with normal speed
Instructional Procedure
Focus on Fluency / Accuracy
◈ Students
◈ read and practise the given dialog with their assigned partners.(Pair work)
◈ observe the natural omission of words / phrases in an informal dialog
◈ notice the informal equivalents of ‘All Right’ and ‘Good Bye’.
◈ Check the intonation, pronunciation and context of focus sentences on Youglish (whole class)
◈ notice the variation in the falling and rising intonation
◈ see if and how accents affect the speech
◈ Practise again with improvised speech patterns (Pair / Individual)
Homework
◈ Students will
◈ create a similar dialog for Formal Greetings and Farewells
◈ consult Youglish for words/ phrases like Good Bye, How are you doing?, I will take your leave etc.
( check context, pronunciation, intonation)
◈ Practise the dialogue using speech patterns.

◈ Express self in formal and informal conservations to greet and bid farewell using a variety of
words, phrases, simple sentences, and questions
