WHAT IS XML?
• an eXtensible Markup Language
• is meta-language that used for creating languages
• is an extentive concept
• is both human-readable and machine-readable
• Goal : simplicity, generality, and usability across
the internet
• Purpose : to help computers to share data
WHAT IS XML?
• Hundreds of document formats using XML
syntax
• XML-based formats have become the default
for many office- productivity tools
• used to transfer data from one place to another
over the internet
RULES FOR XML
• enclosed in angle brackets
• come in pairs with start-tags and end-tags
• do not have end-tags must be terminated by a
‘/’
• Case sensitive
• May not contain ‘<’ or ‘&’
