Introduction
● How can we design cities which can be
sustainable and decrease disparities?
The research question is linked to the SOI
because in both the research question and
the SOI we want to know how we can
design cities which can be sustainable and
decrease disparities.
● Sustainability: the ability to be maintained Fig. 2. “World Bank Launches Platform for Sustainable

1.1. Site and Situation
● Norway, country of northern Europe that occupies
the western half of the Scandinavian peninsula.
Nearly half of the inhabitants of the country live
in the far south, in the region around Oslo, the
capital. About two-thirds of Norway is
mountainous, and off its much-indented coastline
lie, carved by deep glacial fjords, some 50,000
islands. The majority of the country borders
water, including the Skagerrak inlet to the south,
the North Sea to the southwest, the North Atlantic
Ocean (Norwegian Sea) to the west, and the
Barents Sea to the north.

1.2. Site and Situation
Norway has a total area of 385,207 square
kilometres and a population of 5,312,300 (as of
August 2018). The country shares a long eastern
border with Sweden (1,619 km or 1,006 mi long).
Norway is bordered by Finland and Russia to the
north-east, and the Skagerrak strait to the south, with
Denmark on the other side. Norway has an extensive
coastline, facing the North Atlantic Ocean and the
Barents Sea.

1.3. Site and Situation
● The Norwegian economy is one of the wealthiest
in the world thanks in part to nearly forty years of
north sea oil and gas production. The country
regularly runs up very large fiscal and current
account (trade) surpluses and their per capita
income (PPP adjusted) remains very high despite
a slowdown in economic growth.
● These factors will facilitate the growth of my city.
● My city is in an MEDC country.
● I chose to place it there because I come from this
country and because it’s a really developed
country.
