PERSONAL HYGIENE
Introduction

Hygiene is a set of practices performed to preserve health.


According to the world health organization (WHO) hygiene refer
to the condition and practice that help to maintain health and
prevent the spread of disease.

Personal hygiene refers to maintaining the body’s cleanliness


Good personal hygiene is required in GMP in pharmaceutical industry
in order to ensure safety of the product and avoid any type of
contamination which can affect quality of the product.

Personal hygiene in pharmaceuticals it is very important and required


to be maintained by the person involved in the manufacturing of
quality medicines .
Principles of personal hygiene
Health examination for all personnel.
Before and during employment
Periodic eye examinations for those who to do
visual inspection

Training
Practice in personal hygiene.
Written procedures and instructions
Signs in areas(e.g changing room)

Illness or open lesion
Should not handle stating materials ,intermediate or finished
products
May affect the quality of the products
Instruction and encouragement to report to supervisors

Protection of the product from contamination:


Clean clothes appropriate to personnel activities they perform
Including hair covering (e.g caps)

• Direct contact between product and operator:
Should be avoided
for starting materials ,primary packaging materials
,intermideate and bulk products
Wash hands before entering the product areas

• Personal hygiene procedures including the use of protective clothing
should apply to all persons entering production areas,
whether they are temporary workers
full-time employees.

visitors,
inspectors.

Smoking, eating and drinking not allowed in in


production, laboratory and storage areas,
 No chewing(eg gum)
 No plants kept inside these areas,
 Rest and refreshment areas should be separate from
the manufacturing and control areas
