INTRODUCTION
In hot climates the thermal insulation material are
commonly used in building roof and walls to reduce
the heat flow into indoor space by providing an
thermal barrier.
Phase change material is a substance with a high heat
of fusion which melting and solidifying at certain
temperature is capable of storing and releasing large
amount of heat.
Alccofine is a micro fine mineral additive for
concrete. It improve the performance parameters of
concrete.
NEED FOR STUDY
The energy demand to provide a comfortable environment for
humans in buildings has continuously increased worldwide.
The energy use for heating, cooling and air conditioning
increase the level of greenhouse gas emissions and decrease
fossil fuel sources
In order to minimize the needs of energy consumption in
buildings,it is suitable to adopt phase change materials in the
roofs and walls to reduce the heat penetration inside the
building.
OBJECTIVE
To study the mechanical and thermal properties of
light weight aggregate concrete containing phase
changing material.
To improve the strength properties of light weight
aggregate concrete with phase changing material
using alccofine.
SCOPE
Expanded clay aggregate has to be used as light weight
aggregate.
Phase changing material has to be incorporated into light
weight aggregate by immersion method.
Coarse aggregate has to be replaced with expanded clay
aggregate in various proportion from 0 to 15% by volume.
Cement has to be partially replaced with alccofine from 0% to
20% by weight.
M20 grade of concrete has to be proportioned with light weight
aggregate containing phase changing material.
Compressive strength at 3,7,28,60 days,flexural strength at 28
days, thermal conductivity at 28 days and thermal variation at
various age has to be studied.
WORK SCHEDULE
In the first phase, Light Weight Aggregate and PCM has
to be purchased. How much percentage of PCM is
immersed in LWA is to be studied. Collection of
literatures for research work has also to be completed.
Mix proportions for various percentages of phase
changing material in LWA admixed concrete has to be
done. Characterization of properties of PCM has to be
done in laboratories of nearby institute.
In the second phase, Strength, Thermal and Micro-
Structural studies on LWA admixed concrete with phase
changing material have to be conducted.
