MEMORIZED

SPEECH
By: Group 4
What is MEMORIZED
SPEECH?
A memorized speech is a speech
that is recited from memory rather
than read from cue cards or using
the assistance of notes.
ADVANTAGES
• At best, memorized speech can allow a smooth
and effortless delivery which may impress the
audience
• It enables the speaker to maintain eye contact
with the audience throughout the speech. Being
free of notes means that you can move freely
around the stage and use your hands to make
gestures.
DISADVANTAGES
■ Memorizing causes speaker to focus too much on
specific words and not enough on important
themes, points and messages
■ Tend to focus too much on memorizing for fear of
forgetting parts of the speech that speakers can
end up reciting like robots
■ Despite maintaining eye contact, hardly any
attention is paid to developing a relationship with
the audience
DISADVANTAGES
■ Risky
Chance of forgetting a piece of information
which can cause panic. If panic is not handled
well, speakers will immediately revert to an
impromptu method of presenting. For these
reasons, the memorized method of speaking may
be more suitable when delivering short speeches
such as introducing another speaker.
TIPS/POINTER
■ Chunking of information
Organizing the prepared information
into logical chunks will allow the speaker to
memorize more effectively.
Enhances audience’s ability to
understand the speech content.
