1. COPYRIGHT
In this digital age, texts, photos, songs and games can be
easily downloaded. The fact that these materials are
made available on the Internet does not mean that
anyone can download or reproduce them freely. All
materials on the Internet including websites and graphics
are copyright-protected unless otherwise stated.

Though a web page is subjected to copyright, the

individual works (e.g. music, text, images) found on it
can be protected by a separate copyright. It is always a
good practice to check the terms and conditions of use of
the website and those of the works before hyperlinking
it.
 Copyright protects the original works of creators from being used by others
without permission.

 Copyright exists automatically once the work is created and no registration is

required.

 By providing exclusive rights to copyright owners to control the use of their

work, they are encouraged to put in greater effort, time and energy into their
creation. As such, more creative works that are of benefit to society and
individuals will be produced.

 We can play our part in respecting the works of others by seeking permission
from the copyright owners to use their works.

2. EVALUATING ONLINE INFORMATION

Not all information found online is trustworthy. Thus, we need to evaluate content
that we see online.

To evaluate means to assess if the information on the site is true or trustworthy.

When we are working on research projects, it is important to evaluate the content
we find online in order to best support our research.

Furthermore, in order to protect ourselves from online scams and fake websites, it
is important for us to assess the credibility of the online content.
HOW?

You can use the S.U.R.E. model created by the National

Library Board, Singapore to access information online.
