SKIN CONDITIONS

SHINGLES (HERPES
ZOSTER)

Shingles is a viral infection that causes a

painful rash. Although shingles can occur
anywhere on your body, it most often
appears as a single stripe of blisters that
wraps around either the left or the right
side of your torso. Shingles is caused by
the varicella-zoster virus — the same
virus that causes chickenpox.
H I V E S ( U RT I C A R I A )

Urticaria, also known as hives, is an

outbreak of swollen, pale red bumps or
plaques (wheals) on the skin that appear
suddenly -- either as a result of the body's
reaction to certain allergens, or for
unknown reasons. .
PSORIASIS

Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes red, itchy

scaly patches, most commonly on the knees,
elbows, trunk and scalp. Psoriasis is a common,
long-term (chronic) disease with no cure. It tends
to go through cycles, flaring for a few weeks or
months, then subsiding for a while or going into
remission.
ECZEMA

Eczema is a condition where patches of skin

become inflamed, itchy, red, cracked, and rough.
Blisters may sometimes occur. Different stages
and types of eczema affect 31.6 percent of people
in the United States.
SKIN TAG

A skin tag is a small, soft, flesh-colored

benign skin growth, often on a
stalk. Skin tags are probably the single
most common bump on adult skin. Skin
tags are harmless but can be an
annoying skin problem.
ACNE

Acne, also known as acne vulgaris, is a long-

term skin disease that occurs when
dead skin cells and oil from the skin clog hair
follicles. Typical features of
the condition include blackheads or
whiteheads, pimples, oily skin, and possible
scarring.
ATHLETE’S FOOT

Athlete's foot (tinea pedis) is a fungal

infection that usually begins between the
toes. It commonly occurs in people
whose feet have become very sweaty while
confined within tightfitting shoes.
MOLES

Moles are a common type of skin

growth. They often appear as small, dark
brown spots and are caused by clusters of
pigmented cells. Moles generally appear
during childhood and adolescence.
WARTS

A wart is a small growth with a rough texture

that can appear anywhere on the body. It can
look like a solid blister or a small
cauliflower. Warts are caused by viruses in the
human papillomavirus (HPV) family. The
appearance of a wart depends on its location
on the body and the thickness of the skin.
