 WHAT IS ROAD ACCIDENT
 In general, it is an unplanned, unexpected and undesigned
event which occurs suddenly and causes injury or loss, a
decrease in value of the resources.
 A road traffic accident occurs when a vehicle that is moving
along a roadway collides with another vehicle or object.
 Road accident can also be referred to as any accident
involving at least one vehicle, occurring on a road open to
public circulation and in which at least one person is injured
or killed.
 CAUSES OF ROAD ACCIDENT
 Distracted Driving
Distracted driving is one of the top cause of car or motor
accident today. A distracted driver is a motorist that divert
his or her attention from the road, usually to talk on a
phone, send a text, eat food, looking at an object or event
outside the vehicle, applying makeups etc.
 CAUSES CONT’
 Poor road network.
Road network in Ghana are very poor. Old bridges, pot
holes, no road signs are all features of roads in Ghana that
cause accidents. Road with so much pot holes can cause
accident. Reason being that drivers in their bit to dodge
these pot holes which are sometimes so deep end up
moving into the lane of oncoming cars and cause head on
collision/accident.

 Passengers

The role of passengers is also to be taken into

consideration. Some passengers are fond of engaging
drivers in conversation, telling them to speed up while
others frustrate them with series of insults. All these
activities distract the attention of the driver and in that
case he drives recklessly causing accidents.

 Drivers

 Irresponsible attitude of drivers in this country is also

one of the main cause of road accident. Some drivers
just drive and do not understand traffic regulations and
road signs.
 Driving requires a lot of energy and hence after a days
work, a driver should get enough rest but in the case of
Ghanaians drivers it is different. They drive when tired
in the name of making money. They then sleep behind
the steering wheel and cause very terrible accidents all
because while sleeping controlling of the car is lost.
 Regular maintenance and servicing of the car is very
important but drivers to not attach importance to it.
 CONCLUSION
As discussed above, all these are part of causes of road or
motor accident, moreover, this causes of accidents can be
controlled by some efforts.
There is a saying that “Knowledge is Power”, so if you
wish to stay safe and maintain the safety of those you love,
don’t become one o these unfortunate statistics.
