Hypothesis
An educated conjecture about the logically developed
relationship between two or more variables, expressed in
the form of testable statements.
Variables
Anything that can take on differing or varying values.
Kinds of Variables
1. Independent
2. Dependent
3. Moderating
4. Mediating
Applied Research
It is to solve a current problem faced by the manager in
the work setting, demanding a timely solution.
For example, a particular product may not be selling, and
the manager might want to find the reasons for this in
order to take corrective action.
Basic/Fundamental/Pure Research
It is to generate a body of knowledge by trying to
comprehend how certain problems that occur in
organizations can be solved.
For example, A study looking at how caffeine
consumption impacts the brain.

Internal Consultant/Researcher
Some organizations have their own consulting or research
department, which might be called internal consultant to
subunits of the organization that face certain problems and
seek help.
External Consultant/Researcher
Some organizations hire consulting or research
organizations, which might be called external consultant to
seek into the problems faced by the organization and
provide the solution.
