defined as the exchange of thoughts, ideas, concepts,
and views between or among two or more people
can be classified according to: (1) communication
mode, (2) context, and (3) purpose and style

Verbal – Non-Verbal Communication
Visual Communication
- uses visuals to convey information
and/or messages
- signs, symbols, imagery, maps,
graphs, charts, diagrams,
pictograms, photos, drawings,
illustrations, videos

Intrapersonal Communication
Interpersonal Communication
Extended Communication
- involves the use of electronic media
Organizational Communication
- a communication that takes place among
individuals who comprise a group
- has 2 types: (1) formal and (2) informal
Intercultural Communication
- it is communication between or among people have
different linguistic, religious, ethnic, social, and
professional backgrounds
TYPES OF COMMUNICATION
ACCORDING TO PURPOSE AND STYLE
Formal Communication
- employs formal language delivered orally or in
written form
- lectures, public speeches,
research/project proposals,
reports, business letters
Informal Communication
- involves personal and ordinary
conversations with friends, family
members, or acquaintances about anything
under the sun
The success of communication relies on its mode,
context, and purpose and style.
