PURPOSE

In recent days, soft drink brands were put into various

questions regarding their purity . News flashed that
they contain harmful pesticides, chemicals for us.
This arose interest in me in knowing its contents
because I have been drinking them for years. I wanted
to confirm that whether the charge imposed on these
drinks are true or not.
Another fact which inspired me to do this project is that
I am in touch with qualitative analysis whose
knowledge with other factors helped me to do so.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
It would be my utmost pleasure to express my
sincere Thanks to
My Chemistry Teacher MR. ASHOK SIR in
providing a helping hand in this project . His
valuable guidance , support, and supervision all
through this project titled
“Determination of the Contents of Cold Drinks”
Drinks
are responsible for attaining its present form.

theory
Cold drinks of different brands are composed of
alcohol, carbohydrates, phosphate ions etc.
These soft drinks give feelings of warmth
,lightness and have a tangy taste which is liked
by everyone. Carbon Dioxide is responsible for
the formation of froth on shaking the bottle .
The gas dissolved in water forms carbonic acid .
Carbohydrates are naturally occuring organic
compounds providing energy to us.
Carbohydrates on the basis of molecular size are
classified as Monosaccharide, Disaccharide
and Polysaccharide. Glucose is a
monosaccharide occurring in free states in
many sweet fruits. It is also present in the
human body to an extent of 0.1% . Sucrose is
one of the most useful disaccharide in our life .
It is present in juices, fruits, flowers and all
plants. It is non-reducing in nature while
glucose is reducing in nature .
Cold drinks are a bit acidic in nature and its
acidity can be measured in pH scale.
introduction
The era of cold drinks began in 1952 but the
industrialization in India marked its beginning with
launching of Limca and Goldspot by Parle group of
companies. Since the marketing of cold drinks was
highly profitable and luring , many MNCs installed
their brands in India like Pepsi and Coke.
Nowadays, it’s observed in general that majority of
people prefer Sprite, Mirinda, Limca , Pepsi, Thumps
up and Coca Cola for refreshment and to activate the
pulse and brain.

RESULT

• After conducting several tests , it was concluded that the different brands
of cold drinks namely :
 Coca Cola
 Sprite
 Limca
 Fanta
All contain glucose, alcohol, sucrose, phosphate, and carbon dioxide. All
cold drinks are acidic in nature. On comparing the pH values it was found
that Coca Cola is the most acidic while Limca is the least acidic.

Whereas among the four samples Sprite has the maximum amount of
Carbon Dioxide dissolved and Fanta has the least amount of CO2
dissolved.
