 If you remember the classification of patients
who present themselves for complete denture(chapter7):-

1- (patients already wearing complete denture)

If the patient can not leave the denture for 48hrs

2- patients already edentulous and have not yet been
supplied with dentures ( more facilitative ) .
 1. Wearing dentures at night

preferred

+ avoid clinching and bruxism

+ to avoid tissue inflammation

+ In case of obstruction sleep apnea .

 We instruct the patient to wear dentures during sleep for the first 3 nights
in order to –:

 Reduce period of discomfort and adaptation.

But for the first 3 nights of insertion or before

the firs recall visit instruct the patient to not
remove the denture at night .

 Never ever use sodium hypochlorite

With acrylic dentures and teeth because
bleaching will Destroy the appearance of
the denture .
  Denture cleanser or at least once a day
cleaned with brush and liquid detergent .

 Last thing that patient should be warned

against using harsh abrasive material and
hard bristle brush( soft brush instead of
hard brush)

Hand basin should be half or partially filled with
water to prevent breakage of the denture .
 3- eating or mastication with new dentures

Because mandibular movements are more restricted

+ tongue has to control both lower denture and food.
Suggestions to patients during the period of learning
To eat:-

begin
(In order to distribute forces on both sides
and to decrease resorption)
(first chewing with post teeth should be mastered
Before biting from ant teeth )

2- retracting the lips when the patient counts from
1 to 10 .
If free way space 4-5 mm = normal

If loss of free way space or clicking teeth occurs
This will indicate = excessive or increased vertical

 Soreness And Ulcer
Soreness and ulcer occurs Due to :-

- Peripheries of the impressions rarely reproduce all

functional movements .

- Overextension of the peripheries of the dentures .

- Insufficient relief ( pressure point) over hard areas

or bony prominince such as torus palatinus + torus
mandibularis + median palatine raphe + fovea
palatinea .
or over sensitive areas such as mental foramen + incisive
papilla

- Overextension of the flanges ( too deep and press
into the tissues of the sulcus )

2 common areas required to be
skilled in order to prevent any ulcer or bacterial
infection to occur :-

1-pterygomandibular raphe

2-Posterior palatal seal

Overextension in these area will cause

Ulcer + bacterial infection

treatment or Instructions are :-
Gargling , moth wash
and trimming the overextension
Peripheries of the denture
Note that
 Summarize the previous slide

1 - mild pain(not sever) ‫ل‬ii‫لةا‬ii‫ا‬i‫يح‬iii‫ف‬

should not be removed unless the
pain is not sever .

2- If the pain is severe and the denture has

to be left out in order to indicate where
the denture is overextended the denture
should be worn for a few hours
immediately before visiting the doctor.
