PROBLEM :

As a structural engineer, you are hired by the owner of an amusement

park to design a Ferris wheel which will be the park's main attraction.
He wants the Ferris wheel to have a radius of 60 ft, with triangular steel
truss to support it. To ensure the ride's functionality and safety, one of
the things that you need to check is that the left and right sides of the
bottom steel truss must have the same measure of the radius of the
Ferris wheel in order to keep it balanced. You are to present your
design to the owner of the park including a detailed written
computation of the lengths of the left and right sides of the steel truss.
Theride must be carefully and precisely constructed so make sure your
computation is correct and exact.
FT
60
Given : r = 60 ft Solution:

c²=a²+b² (60)² = (-40)² + y²

3600 - 1600 = y²
r ² = x² + y² √2000 = √y²
y = 20 √5
y = 44.7
