CNI 5000 ADS-B Upgrade.

The CNI 5000 upgrade consist of:

Removing the KT 70/71 transponders, replacing them with KT 74’s specifically


designed to replace the KT 70/71 Transponders in a CNI 5000 installation.

Installing KGX 150 to provide WASS GPS to KT 74. (Optional)

Interfacing the KGX 150 to the KT74. (Optional)

Installing a new CNI 5000 overlay.

Testing the System for functionality

2 - Removing the KT 70/71

Removing the CNI 5000 panel overlay.


Rotate six captive DZUS fasteners securing the Front Panel Assembly
Gently rock Front Panel Assembly from top to bottom while pulling
straight outward. This action will cause separation of light board assembly PC
board connector pins (P201) from contacts within connector hood.
Removing the KT 70/71 transponder.
Locate 3/32" Allen screw on the Hold Down Assembly and turn
counterclockwise until front cam is approximately 90° (vertical),
continue counterclockwise rotation until unit disengages from connector.
Slide unit(s) straight out of rack.

3.0 Installation summary of the KGX 150

Installing the KGX 150 will require several steps outlined in the STC Installation
Manual. Below is a summary of those steps, the installation is not limited to the
step below as each aircraft is different and may require additional steps.

3.1 Gaining access to the CNI 5000 rack

The MFD, Copilots PFD will need to be removed and the CNI 5000 rack
will need to be removed from its support to gain access to the back of the
CNI 5000 rack
3.2 Gaining access for the KGX installation

The following panels were removed for installation of the KGX 150
mounting, GPS and UAT antennas installations.
• Overhead panel above the pilot and copilot.
• Lower access panel copilot side.
• Trim panel around the copilots window.
• Access to under the floor copilots side under the control column.
• Circuit Breaker located on the copilot side.

4 - Installing the KT 74

To install the KT 74 in to the CNI 5000 you will need a 3/32 Allen Wrench.
Slide the KT 74 into the CNI 5000 Rack until it makes contact with the rack.

Using the 3/32 Allen Wrench tighten the hold down can until the unit seated.
Caution do not over tighten, this could damage the unit.
Panel Overlay Installation
Align the unit push buttons and knobs with the holes in the front panel. Make sure the
pins of the front panel connector engage and then fasten the lower right DZUS 1/4 turn
fastener.
NOTE Do not force the panel and do not press on the lenses!
Make sure all buttons and knobs are in their respective holes before tightening the
remaining DZUS fasteners.
After the panel is secure check for proper operation of all knobs and buttons. Make sure
knobs do not drag on the panel.
Make sure that all the ON/OFF knobs are in the OFF position

5 - Completed Installation

6 – Configuring the KT 74 transponder

The KT 74 uses a simple setup system to program important system parameters,


including the Mode S address. In the original factory configuration, the setup
screen is the first thing that runs when you switch on the transponder. If the
transponder has already been configured, and you want to access the setup
screen again, simply hold down the FUNC button while switching on the
transponder and the setup system will run.

The following items will need to be configured:


• Aircraft Registration
• Mode S address
• VFR squawk code
• Aircraft maximum airspeed
• Aircraft category
• Squat switch source
• GPS certification
• GPS NACv.

6 – Configuring the KT 74 Transponder

The following items will need to be configured: (Continued)


• ARINC TIS-A output format, if used
• RS232 TIS-A output format, if used
• GPS position source
• Measurement units
• Aircraft length and width
• GPS reference offset
• Audio output volume
• LCD dimming settings

For details on the configuration settings see Section 5 of the STC Installation
Manual. You may also need to reference the KT 74 Installation Manual part number
89000007-00001 for details on setting the configuration.
NOTE: Both KT 74’s will need to be configured.

7 - Configuring the KGX 150 (Optional)

You do not need to configure the KGX 150, if a WIFI module is not being used.
Port one is automatically set to send out GPS information.
The KGX is configured thru the MPI port.
The configuration will be minimal as the KGX 150 is not transmitting information.
The following items will need to be configured:
• Receiver Configuration
• Groundspeed Threshold
• Vehicle Size
• UAT Antenna
• GPS Antenna Offset
• Mode A Receive

8 - Ground Testing

The completed installation will need to be ground tested.

The ground test my contain the following test.


Initial Test, Transponder Ramp Test, ADS-B ramp test.

For a complete list of required test and Ground Test Score Card consult the STC
Installation Manual Section 6 GROUND TESTS.

For specific trouble shooting related to the KT 74 or the KGX 150 refer to the
appropriate Installation Manual.

9 - Flight Testing

The completed installation will need to be flight tested.

It is recommended you follow the flight test procedure described in the STC
installation manual.
