Types of Projections

1. Orthographic
2. Oblique
3. Perspective
1.Orthographic
Orthographic projection is a means of representing three dimensional objects
in two dimensions . It is a form of parallel projections .
There are further two types of orthographic
projections
1.1.Multiview(First angle ,Third angle)
1.2.Axonometric (Isometric , Dimetric , Trimetric)
1.1Multiview
A Multiview projection is a technique by which a
standardized series of orthographic two-dimension
pictures are constructed to represent the form of a
three-dimensional object

• First angle
• Second angle
• First angle
• First angle projection is a method of creating a 2D drawing
of a 3D object. It is mainly used in Europe and Asia and has
not been officially used in Australia for many years. In
Australia, third angle projection is the preferred method of
orthographic projection.
• Third angle

Third Angle projection is a method of orthographic projection which is a

technique in portraying a 3D design using a series of 2D views.
1.2Axonometric

Axonometric projection is a type of orthographic projection used for

creating a pictorial drawing of an object, where the lines of sight are
perpendicular to the plane of projection and the object is rotated
around one or more of its axes to reveal multiple
Further are the main features of axonometric projections
• Isometric
• Dimetric
• Trimetric
• Isometric projection

Isometric projection is a method for visually representing three-dimensional

objects in two dimensions in technical and engineering drawings. It is an
axonometric projection in which the three coordinate axes appear equally
foreshortened and the angle between any two of them is 120 degrees
• Dimetric projection
• Dimetric projection is defined as a way of drawing an object so that one axis
has a different scale than the other two axis in the drawing. An example of
dimetric projection is a technical drawing that shows a 3-dimensional cube
with one side of the cube smaller in proportion to the other two sides.
• Trimetric projection
The projection of objects on a drawing surface so that the three spatial
axes appear unequally inclined and with equal distances along the axes
drawn unequally a trimetric projection a trimetric drawing.
2.Obilque
Oblique projection is a simple type of technical
drawing of graphical projection used for
producing two-dimensional images of three-
dimensional objects
3.Prespective
• The art of representing three-dimensional
objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to
give the right impression of their height,
width, depth, and position in relation to each
other
