REFLECTION, REFRACTION,

DIFFRACTION and DISPERSION of

LIGHT
REFLECTION
is when light bounces off an object.
If the surface is smooth and shiny, the
light will reflect at the same angle as it hit
the surface.
2 Types of Reflection

Light reflects from a smooth surface at

the same angle as it hits the surface and
travel in the same direction is called
specular reflection. For a rough
surface, reflected light rays scatter in all
directions is called diffuse reflection.
The angle at which light hits a
reflecting surface is called the angle
of incidence, and the angle at
which light bounces off a reflecting
surface is called the angle of
reflection
REFRACTION

is the bending of a wave when it enters a

medium where its speed is different.

Example:
when light travels from air into
water, it slows down, causing it to
continue to travel at a different direction.
DIFFRACTION

is a slight bending of light when it

passes around an edge or through a
slit.

1. Slight bending of light when it

passes around an edge is called__________

2. Bending of light is called____________

3. Bouncing of light is called____________

4. Splitting of beam of white light into 7 colors is

called__________

5. Reflection of light in a rough surface is called_________

OBJECTIVES

 summarize the group written reflection about

the passage

 appreciate the essence of light to the world

 share in group their own reflection about the

passage
REFLECTION
Walking in the Light (Ephesians 5:7-14)
7 Therefore do not be partakers with them; 8 for you were formerly
darkness, but now you
are light in the Lord; walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light
consists in all
goodness and righteousness and truth), 10 trying to learn what is
pleasing to the Lord. 11
And do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead
even expose them;
12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by
them in secret. 13 But
all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for
everything that becomes
visible is light. 14 For this reason it says,
“Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you.”
GROUP ACTIVITY

ACTIVITY: GROUP REFLECTION

Make one output in a long bond paper showing
the ff:
1. Illustration of your representation of light to
others.
2. Summarize answers of the members with
regard to the question: How can you be light to
others?
3. Be ready for the presentation
ASSIGNMENT

 BRING LONG BOND PAPER, PENCIL, RULER

AND COLORING MATERIALS TOM.

 BRING YOUR SCIENCE BOOK

 A ray diagram is a diagram that traces the
path that light takes in order for a person to
view a point on the image of an object.
1. Draw the image of the object

Pick one extreme on the object and carefully measure

the distance from this extreme point to the mirror. Mark
off the same distance on the opposite side of the mirror
and mark the image of this extreme point. Repeat this
process for all extremes on the object until you have
determined the complete location and shape of the
image. Note that all distance measurements should be
made by measuring along a segment that is
perpendicular to the mirror.

2. Refraction
3. Diffraction
4. Dispersion
5. Ray Diagram Technique

Be ready for a long test next meeting.
