EUROPEAN DESIGN –

EUROPIA 2020
Mažeikiai Kalnenu Basic school started  a
new ERASMUS+ project  "European
Design-Europia 2020" that lasts three
years, from 2017 to  2020. There are 7
partners participating in the project:
Austria, Slovenia, Belgium,  Poland,
Bulgaria, Portugal and Lithuania. The
coordinator of the project is
Austrian ”Akademisches Gymnasium“.
The final product of the project is
Europia 2020 - high round panoramic
picture (20 m long, 2 meters high with
a virtual 360  view inside and
outside). It will be displayed in
Austria.

Austria
Austria is officially called the Republic of Austria.
In German it is called Osterreich which means
"eastern kingdom" or "eastern empire".
Austria is a landlocked country, with a land area of 83,855
km² (32,377 mi²).
German is the official language of Austria and is
spoken by over 88% of the population. Other local
languages include Hungarian, Croatian, Serbian,
Bosnian, Turkish and Polish.
Austria has a population of over 8 million people
(8,221,646) as of July 2013.
Vienna is the capital and the largest city of
Austria, with a population over 1.7 million.

Bulgaria is a Balkan nation with diverse terrain encompassing Black
Sea coastline, rivers, including the Danube, and a mountainous interior.
Bulgaria is officially known as the Republic of Bulgaria.
Official language is Bulgarian.
Bulgaria is a country situated in south-eastern Europe,
bordering Romania to the north, Serbia and the Republic of
Macedonia to the west, Greece and Turkey to the south, and the Black
Sea to the east.
As of 1 January 2016, the population of Bulgaria was estimated to
be 7,080,027 people.
Sofia is the capital and largest city of Bulgaria. Founded
thousands of years ago, today the city continues to develop as the
country’s cultural and economic center.

The official name of Poland is the
Republic of Poland.
Poland is the 9th largest country in Europe
by land area.
Seven countries share a border with
Poland including Russia, Lithuania,
Belarus, Slovakia, Ukraine, the Czech
Republic, and Germany.
Poland is home to over 38 million people
(38,383,809) as of July 2013.
Warsaw is the largest city and capital
of Poland.
Poland’s national symbol is the White Eagle.

Position: Slovenia is a Central European country. 
Area: 20,273 km2
Capital city: Ljubljana, population: 280,000.
 Length of borders: 330 km with Austria , 280
km with Italy, 102 km with Hungary and 670 km

Belgium
The official name of Belgium is the Kingdom of Belgium.
Belgium shares a land border with 4 countries including France, Germany,
Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
Belgium has a population of 10.5 million people (10,444,268) as of July
2013.
Covering an area of just 30,528 km² (11,787 mi²), Belgium is one of the
most densely populated countries in the world.
The largest city and capital of Belgium is Brussels. The city has a population
of 1.2 million and serves as the capital of the European Union and is home
to the NATO headquarters.
There are three official languages in Belgium. Dutch, spoken by just under
60% of the population, mainly by the Flemish to the north in the Flanders
area. French is spoken by around 40% of the population and mainly to the
south in the Wallonia region. There is a small group of German-speakers in
eastern Wallonia.

Lithuania
The name Lithuania was mentioned for the first time in
the Annals of Quedlinburg in 1009.  By the end of the 14th
century, Lithuania was the largest country in Europe.
 The Kingdom of Lithuania was formed by numerous tribes
living in the area at that moment.
Today Lithuania has a population of about 2,850,400 people, and
the land area of 65,300 square kilometers (25,212 square miles).
The Greek, Latin, German, Celtic, and the Slavic are one
of the oldest languages in the World, but they are not
even nearly as old as the Lithuanian tongue, which is the
most ancient one from them all.  It belongs to an Indo-
European language group and of all the tongues spoken today –
Lithuanian is the closest one to the ancient Sanskrit.

Portugal
The official name of Portugal is the Portuguese
Republic.
Portugal is the westernmost country of the European
mainland.
The country also holds sovereignty over the
Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and the
Madeira Islands.
Portugal has a population of over 10 million people
(10,799,270) as of July 2013.
Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal. It
is the oldest city in Western Europe and one of the
oldest cities in the world. Lisbon was devastated by
a major earthquake in 1755. Although the city was
rebuilt within a few years, the quake led to the
country losing much of its wealth and status.
