BREEDS AND BODY SIZE
There many different breeds of cats; The Cat Fanciers’ Asosiation recognizes
about 40 distinct breeds.
The most familiar are the domestic shorthair and domestic long-hair, which are
really mixtures of different breeds.

SKIN AND HAIR
Feline skin, has an outer layer called the epidermis that is constatly being replaced ,
and inner layer called the dermis that contains nerves and boold vessels.
Feline skin is more sesitive than human skin, which is why it is important to use topical
preparations that are specifically formulated for pets.
FELINE HAIRS

GUARD HAIRS: coarse, long, thick hairs that come to a


fine tip; insulate the body and aid the sense of touch.

AWN HAIRS: thinner hairs within the primary coat; also


help isulate and protect the body.

SECONDARY HAIRS: the thinnest and most numerous


hairs; make up the downy undercoat thats importat for
temperature control.

WHISKERS: long, wiry, sensory hair attached to the


face.

HEARING
Cats are very sensitive to sound, with a range of hearing both above and below the range of
frequencies that can be detected by people. Feline hearing also acts as a direction finder, which
is useful for hunting purposes. Cats generally tum their heads toward the direction of the
sound while listening to pinpoint the location.
Habitat
The cats live in different habitats, from deserts to
Jungles. Some of them live in towns and cities, where
food is easier to find. Wild cats usually live in urban
environment.

Domestic cats live with humans in their houses, who


provide refuge, heat, safety, food and water.

large predators. It is the most perfecty adapted
land hunter for every environment.
• The cats need confortable places. They like feeling
