Election
On November 4, 2008, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois was chosen president
of the United States over Senator John McCain of Arizona. Obama became the
44th president, and the first African American to be in office.
Discovery
In 2015, findings from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) provided the
strongest evidence at the time that liquid water flows intermittently on Mars.
Natural disaster
In 2004, a series of large tsunamis up to 30 metres (100 ft) high were created by
underwater seismic activity. Communities along the surrounding coasts of the Indian
Ocean were seriously affected, and the tsunamis killed an estimated 227,898 people in
14 countries.

November 22, 1963. Kennedy was riding with his wife Jacqueline when he was
fatally shot by former U.S. Marine Lee Harvey Oswald.

Antibiotics are powerful drugs that kill

us sick. Alexander Fleming discovered the
first antibiotic, penicillin, which he grew
in his lab using mold and fungi. Without
antibiotics, infections like strep throat
could be deadly.

On January 7 2015 at about 11:30 local time, two brothers, Saïd and Chérif Kouachi,
forced their way into the offices of the weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris.
Armed with rifles, they killed 12 people and injured 11 others. The gunmen identified
themselves as belonging to the Islamist terrorist group Al-Qaeda.
