On St David's Day, children dress in their
national costume, which consists of a tall
black bonnet with a frill around the face,
and a shawl worn over a long red dress.

Traditionally, the Welsh wear daffodils or


strips of leek on their lapels or in their
caps. Even Prince Charles of Wales wears
a small yellow daff on his lapel.
TRADITIONS
A Welsh stew, named Cawl, containing lamb
and leeks, is traditionally consumed on St.
David’s Day.
Across Wales on Mar 1st St. David’s Day
parades take place, and in bigger cities food
festivals, concerts and street parties also
occur.
In Cardiff the St. David's Day Parade
consists of marching bands and banners
from all the Welsh counties.
TRADITIONS
Swansea celebrates with daffodils,
Welsh cakes and folk music.
Songs are usually sung in Welsh around
the Swansea Bay. The celebrations start
about a week in advance at locations all
over the city.
Every year local restaurants and markets
offer traditional Welsh food and there are
also dragon parades on the day itself.
