SITE PLAN
• Mormugao Port is a port on the western coast of India, in the coastal state of Goa. Built in 1885 on the site
of a natural harbor, it is one of India's oldest ports.
• It has a naturally protected open-type harbor, that lies on the southern part of the mouth of the river
Zuari.
• This harbor is also protected using a breakwater and a mole that was built from the outer end of the
breakwater.
• MPT has berths for coal and iron ore.
• It also has a berth for cruise ships and even has a dedicated Cruise Terminal building, and hosts a variety
of cruise ships round the year.

CONNECTIVITY
The port is connected by its own railway line, with the former Mormugao railway station situated in its
compound. It is connected to Maharashtra and Karnataka area via South Central Railways and Konkan
Railways. Mormugao Port Trust is connected by road by the National Highway. Ore mined in interior regions
of Goa and Karnataka is brought to MPT by barges navigating the rivers Mandovi and Zuari.

INFRASTRUCTURE
• Mormugao Terminal has vast infrastructure which handles multiple types of Cargo. With deep draft berths
and multipurpose terminals, the port professionally handles the largest bulk carriers in the world.
• The port has covered and open storage areas with huge capacity. Excellent cargo emptying and receiving
infrastructure supports smooth cargo movement in and out of the port.
