basically round ,

equator .
◦The reason for this bulge ;
◦As the earth spins round
and round on its axis , the
spinning motion causes it
to bulge out at its center .
◦The phenomenon is called
[centrifugal force] .
Measuring The Earth ;;
◦ The earth is really very big -----measured at the equator , it is
24,902 miles [ 40,076 km ] in circumfrerence . At the equator , the
earth ‘s diameter , which is the distance through its center , is 7,927
miles [ 12,757 km ] . And it weighs about 6.6 sextillion tons .

Greek mathematician .
Eratosthenes figured out the
distance around the earth . He
learned that at Aswan in Egypt
the sun’s rays came down
vertically at exactly noon
----there was no shadow .
He then noticed that 500 miles
away in the city of
Alexandria , Egypt , the sun’s
rays came down at an angle of
71/2 and there was a bit of
shadow at noon ………..
