Roll No. & Sec - 10 ‘A’
PRODUCTION AND OPRATIONS

1. The pigments are mixed with nitrocellulose and plasticizer using a "two-roll" differential speed mill. This mill
grinds the pigment between a pair of rollers that are able to work with increasing speed as the pigment is ground
down. The goal is to produce fine dispersion of the color.
2. When properly and fully milled, the mixture is removed from the mill in sheet form and then broken up into small
chips for mixing with the solvent. The mixing is performed in stainless steel kettles. The kettles are jacketed so that
the mixture can be cooled by circulating cold water or another liquid around the outside of the kettle. The
temperature of the kettle, and the rate of cooling, are controlled by both computers and technicians.

Adding other ingredients

3. Materials are mixed in computerized, closed kettles. At the end of the process, the mix is cooled slightly before the
addition of such other materials as perfumes and moisturizers.
4. The mixture is then pumped into smaller, 55 gallon drums, and then trucked to a production line. The finished nail
polish is pumped into explosion proof pumps, and then into smaller bottles suitable for the retail market.
INVENTORY MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES

VENDOR-MANAGED INVENTORY:
Adopting in a vendor-managed inventory (VMI) strategy can help businesses reduce the risk of carrying too much inventory
and respond better to changing demand patterns.

PACKAGING:
Cosmetics are sold to a variety of retail streams that often have their own specific requirements

INBOUND LOGISTICS:
In the cosmetics product supply chain, sensing demand and responding timely is a competitive differentiator. By controlling
inbound transportation and product flow at each point in the supply chain, from manufacturing plants to distribution
facilities to retail stores, can help businesses meet inventory to demand..

QUALITY MANAGEMENT PRACTICES

• Extreme attention to quality management practices is essential throughout the manufacturing process. Not
only does quality control increase safety in the process, but it is the only way that a manufacturer can be
assured of consumer confidence and loyalty.

• A single bottle of poor quality polish can lose a customer forever. Regardless of quality control, however, no
single nail polish is perfect; the polish always represents a chemical compromise between what is desired and
what the manufacturer is able to produce.

• The nail polish is tested throughout the manufacturing process for several
important factors (drying time, smoothness of flow, gloss, hardness, color,
abrasion resistance, etc.). Subjective testing, where the mixture or final
product is examined or applied, is ongoing. Objective, laboratory testing of
samples, though more time consuming, is also necessary to ensure a usable
product. Laboratory tests are both complicated and unforgiving, but no
manufacturer would do without them.
PERT & CPM

PERT
Program Evaluation and Review Technique. In most of the projects the activity times are not known with
certainty and they may be assumed as random variable. In such cases where activity time are not known,
PERT can be used for planning, scheduling and controlling projects.

In PERT for each activity, there time estimates can be obtained:
Optimistic time estimate ()
Most likely time estimate ()
pessimistic time estimate ()

CPM
Critical Path Method is network diagramming technique used to predict total project duration. Critical
path for a project

ANALYSIS
PERT is use for new nail polish research and development where we find various verities like powdered
nail polish and sketch nail polish research work. On other side, CPM use for handling production or
manufacturing of nail polish where we know the time consumption for production and maintaining the
plant.
ISSUES
• Various issues are facing by the pail polish manufacturing Industries, some are:

• The consistency of the nail polish should be perfect, long lasting and same for the every batch.

• There are hundreds of shades so how much quantity will produce of which product, because some are using
shades according to season.

• Sale of the manufactured batch because it has a expiry date.

• Major problem with nail polishes—from the consumer's point of view—is

the length of the drying time.
TREATMENT OF WASTE PRODUCT AFTER EXPIRING

As a manufacturer if we have remaining batches or no. of nail polish which can’t be sale in the market due to expiry of
product. At this time industries are facing the same because cosmetic product are not making up because lock down
due to COVID-19.
So, there are the solution which can be cover up the losses of production cost. Due to expired product we can’t apply it
on nails but we can use it as the paints for make different type of painting. For this we can organize the painting fest
and contact with popular and creative painting artist for join this activity and give them the bunch of nail polish to
make the painting then we can sell that paintings galleries or people.
After, receiving the sale amount subtract the material cost (price at production cost only not at MRP). Which amount is
remains, we can donate that to needy person and use it as CSR activity from the company. Type of painting made by
nail polish from them some are given below:
