PRINCIPLES
1 ACTING WITH JOINT INTEREST
• Giving up own role oriented behaviour is a key component
of ethically based communication in organisations.
• Egg ; rather than simply focusing on your own objectives
during presentations and discussions ,show your
willingness to explore joint interest and their benefits of
others.
2 ACTING WITH SENSITIVITY
• Sensitive communication focuses on managing the
emotions of others and practising carefully controlled non-
violent communication that does not create negative
emotional states , such as anger or fear.
3 ACTING WITH CUROUSITY
• It is important to recognize that your views are not the only
truth and that other people’s ideas.
• Curiosity is expressed by remaining silent, allowing others
to speak asking questions and encourage others to say
more.
4 ACTING WITH OPENESS
• People often withhold information that others have a right
to know, or they keep quiet about things for their own
advantage.
• Egg TATA steel has a policy of intimating all of its
employees about the daily happenings in the company

Formulate ethics policies
Develop ethical standards
Members of ethical committees should be well chosen
Well knowledge of industry , code of ethics and community standard.
Committee members should be selected for their objectivity and
commitment to ethical standards
They should also be conscious of the corporate culture and ethical
conscience of the organisation
ETHICS COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS
• Ethics communication system play crucial role in making an
ethics programme successful.

• Allow employees to make enquiries , get advices if needed


report wrongdoing.

• It is necessary to have a system to communicate and educate


employees about the ethical standards and policies.
Objectives of ethics communication system
• 1 Communicate company values and standard of ethical
business conduct to employees
• 2 Provide information to employees on the company’s policies
and procedures regarding ethical business conduct
• 3 Put in place processes to help employees obtain guidance and
to resolve questions regarding firm’s standard of conduct and
value
• 4 Establish means of enquiry such as telephone hotlines,
suggestion boxes and e-mail facilities.
• Employees are often asked to sign their allegiance to the
organization and its values and goals.

• Reminders in form of multi coloured laminated posters,


placed at common areas of meeting.

• Eg ; Wipro sos,helpline which comprises of senior


members
ETHICS OFFICER
• The ethics officer has now become a recognized job title , and
there is now a professional association for such individuals.

• Roles of an ethics officer

• Responsible for accessing the needs and risks that an organization


wide ethics programme must address.

• Developing and distributing code of conduct

• Conducting training programme for employees


• Eg ; TATA steel , ethics counsellor, ethics coordinators
ETHICS TRAINING PROGRAMMES
• Ensuring their ethical behaviour in an organisation
• Offer assistance to employees to understand the ethical
issue that are likely to arise in their work environment
• Sensitize them on the need of ethical behaviour

It will help to ensure


• Recognize situation that might require ethical decision
making
• Under stand values and culture of organisation
• Evaluate the impact of ethical decision company in light of
its value structure
DISCIPLINARY SYSTEM

• Just working out a code of conduct of ethical behaviour


will serve little purpose in organizations.
• It should be properly enforced
• It deals with ethical infractions promptly and decisively
• Investigate causes thoroughly
• Consistent
• Think of the consequences
• Show due care
Approaches to bear the desired result
• To be very clear about goals and means of implementing
the programme
• Set realistic and easily observable objectives
• Associate senior managers in development and running of
programme
• Develop a programme exclusively for the particular
workplace
• Ensure that the programme is not a series of lectures
• Ensure existence of a disciplinary system
• Create a machinery for continuous monitoring and
evaluation
