DISCUSION

Powder
Powder is a dry mixture of medicinal substances / chemicals that are mashed for oral /
internal use or for external use. For powder or pulveres is powder which is divided into
more or less equal weight, wrapped in parchment paper or other packaging materials
suitable for one drink.
In general, writing recipes for powder for those written by doctors consists of two forms:
a. The amount of medicine for all powders written and then divided into several packages:
1. Example recipe:
2. R / Asetosal 10
3. m.f pulv No XX
b. Written amount for each packet of powder and make several packages:
1. Example recipe:
2. R / Asetosal 0.5
3. m.f pulv dtd no XX
 In the first method and recipe I weighed 10 grams of acetosal then crushed and then divided into
20 packs. While the second method is weighed as much as 20 x 0.5 g then crushed and then
divided into 20 packs.
 In order to be able to divide precisely, the powder mixture is often added with additional
additives that are neutral, such as Saccharum Lactis, Saccharum album, until the weight of the
powder per pack is 500 mg. Saccharum album tastes sweet so it can function as a flavoring
agent, but the powder is easily wet and is not suitable for diabetics.
The advantages of powder preparations
compared to other dosage forms are:
1. The powder is more easily dispersed and more easily
dissolved than other oral dosage forms, so it can
immediately provide a therapeutic effect.
2. Easier to swallow than other solid preparations.
3. More stable than liquid preparations.
4. Easier in dosing.
the disadvantages of powder dosage
forms are:

1. Drugs that are not resistant to air exposure will be

damaged by this dosage form.
2. Medicines that are bitter, cause nausea and vomiting, as
well as corrosive drugs cannot be made in this dosage
form.
3. Difficult to close the bad taste and smell.
4. Cannot be stored for long.
5. The duration of the effect and the time the effect starts
cannot be adjusted.
Powder requirement
The requirement for a powder are:
1. Dry
2. Smooth
3. Homogeneous

Meet the uniformity test weights (uniform in weights) or uniformity of content

(seragan in the substances contained) that apply to powders for / pulveres
containing hard drugs, narcotics, and psychotropic substances
Pulvis (undivided powder)

Pulvis are undivided powder. Undivided oral powder (Pulvis) is

limited to relatively in a dequate drugs such as laxansia, antacids,
dietary foods and certain types of analgesics and patients can
measure safely with teaspoons or other measuring instruments.
Other undivided powders are tooth powder and powder, both of
which are used for external use.
