LAB 2 – WELL LOG INTERPRETATION

GROUP OF 5
DUE ON JULY 14TH 23:55HRS

For EACH question below, please briefly explain your rational behind the choices made by referencing which of
the logs were used and how. State any assumptions made, especially in cases where log values are not clearly
shown.
1. Comment on the overall quality of the hole and reference depths at which there might exist issues and explain same (show
on log as well)
2. Delineate Sand vs shale using GR with shale baseline shown (shade sand yellow and shale green)
3. Identify clean sand and clean shale zones on the log using arrows and label
4. Calculate shale volume at 2 points as indicated on the log (A and B)) using two different logs: A
• A is at 1118m and B is at 1126m
5. Identify all permeable beds
6. Identify which zone of the log can be considered as a reservoir by indicating it on the log and giving its bounding depths.
7. Identify what type/s of fluid is/are present in the reservoir and shade on the requisite log the zone for each type.
8. Calculate the porosity of the formation at 1114m deep showing formula used and values for each parameter.

9. Calculate the hydrocarbon saturation, if any, between 1110 -1114m
