What is a deduction?
• Guesses based on facts you know.
MODALS IN THE PRESENT
• MUST BE = very sure 99%
• CAN’T BE = very sure we think it’s impossible 99%
• MIGHT/COULD/MAY BE = we think it’s possible 50%

• He must be at school, he can’t be at home right now.


• I don’t know your brother, but that might be him because he is
looking at you.
• He could be at home right now, I don’t know.

• BE + NOUN/FEELING/PLACE
• I think that my friend must be at the doctor.
• Your husband must be at work right now.
• All children must be studying from home.
