1
Hydrostatic Driven Engine Cooling Fan
Fan rotation is automatically controlled depending on
coolant , hydraulic oil temperature and P/L oil
temperature, saving fuel consumption and providing
great productivity with a quiet operating environment.

Control

According to Engine coolant , oils temperatures and Engine speed, Fan speed
is controlled basing on the control map ( next page) and if it is different from the
target speed, it is adjusted by the feed back signal from Fan speed sensor.
While the temperatures and Engine speed are low, Fan speed is also low. But
when the coolant temp. is low until the Thermostat opens, Fan speed is not
increased by high P/L temp. made by only T/C stall.
7
Fan speed decision logic
There are three temperature maps.
According to each control map, each target
Fan speed is decided.
Controller chooses the highest one.

Another target speed is decided by Engine

speed and Controller compares them each
other and chooses the lower one as the
final target speed.

WE controller receives input signals, T/C oil, Hydraulic oil and Engine coolant
temperatures and Engine speed and controls Fan speed by the delivery rates, or
swash plate angles of Fan pumps by EPC currents to them. When Fan speed is
different from the target speed, the feed back signal of Fan speed adjusts it. The
Fan reverse signal is sent from the Monitor panel. 10

Hydraulic circuit

There are two Fan pumps, LPV90+30 in tandem. Pressure oil is supplied to Fan motor,
LMF180 and on the way of the supply line, there is Self Pressure Reducing valve that
generates the control pressure for PPC and EPC valves. The Fan motor is equipped with
the Fan speed sensor. The Fan speed is controlled by the EPC current from the
Controller according to the oils and coolant temperatures. When temperatures
become higher, EPC currents become smaller to increase the Fan speed.

15
EPC current-output pressure
-Pump delivery

The larger EPC current, the higher EPC output pressure is provided, and the
higher pressure increases Servo pressure to reduce the Pump delivery rate.

When EPC solenoid line is failed like disconnection, EPC current becomes zero
and it makes Fan pump delivery rate in maximum avoiding sudden stop of the
cooling fan. This is a Fail-Safe design.

16
LPV90 EPC current (i) = small
When EPC current (i) decreases,
EPC output pressure becomes
lower to return the Servo piston.
Flow rate of the Fan pump
increases.

When EPC output pressure

decreases, the spool(7) is pushed
back to right by the spring(6) and
The Servo pressure drains from
the large end of the servo
piston(1). The servo piston moves
down and the lever(2) returns the
spool(7) until the servo piston
stops balancing with the pressures
in the large and small ends.

17
LPV90 EPC current (i) = large
When EPC current (i) increases,
EPC output pressure becomes
higher to push back the Servo
piston. Flow rate of the Fan pump
decreases.

When EPC output pressure

increases, the spool(7) is pushed
to left and Fan pump pressure
flows into the large end of the
servo piston(1). The servo piston
moves and the lever(2) pushes
back the spool(7) until the servo
piston stops balancing with the
pressures in the large and small
ends.

18
LPV30 Fan pump
The smaller pump, LPV30
operates with same
principle. When EPC
current becomes large,
the swash plate angle
decreases to reduce the
flow rate.

rises until the set pressure of the longer provided, but Fan is still rotating by
Safety valve in the beginning. the inertia and negative pressure is
generated. Oil supplies from Suction valve.22
Safety valve operation
When Fan pump pressure
becomes high like starting to
rotate, the Suction safety valve
operates as Safety valve.

The poppet(2) is pushed up

against the spring(1) to release the
high pressure to protect the
hydraulic line.

23
Reverse rotation
The normal direction
is clockwise and oil
flows from MA to MB
( left ).

When Reverse switch

is operated on the
monitor panel, the
command current
encourages the
solenoid and moves
the spool(2). Fan
pump oil flows into
the chamber(D) and
the spool(3) is pushed
to left. Oil flow
direction is changed,
from MB to MA.
