Living things are made up of Organ Systems which work together to help organisms meet their basic needs to survive.

What makes up an
Organism?
Identify the parts that make up an
organism.
Describe the function of each part.
Describe how these parts work
together in an organism.
What are organisms? What makes them up?
Organisms are made up of parts that work
together: organ systems, organs, tissues, and
cells.
Organ systems work together to help
organisms meet their basic needs and to
survive.
Organ systems are made up of organs that
have related functions and are grouped
together.
HUMAN TORSO
- human trunk, main part of the body which includes the head, arm and leg
Can you identify these organ systems?

How do these organ systems work together?

Skeletal System along with Muscular
System functions for movement. The bones
move according to alternating contraction and
relaxation of the muscles. These movements of
the skeletal and muscular systems are
coordinated by the nervous system . All these
happen because of the energy that comes from
the nutrients transported by the circulatory
system to the different parts of the body.
Circulatory system
- responsible for
carrying oxygen and
nutrients and other
materials to the
different parts of the
body. It is made up of
HEART, BLOOD,
BLOOD VESSELS.

BLOOD VESSELS
1.ARTERIES
2.VEINS
3.CAPILLARIES
BLOOD
1. RED BLOOD CELL
2. WHITE BLOOD CELL
3. PLATELETS

AORTA- BIGGEST ARTERY
ARTERIOLES- SMALLEST ARTERY
SUPERIOR VENA CAVA AND INFERIOR
VENA CAVA- TWO BIGGEST VEINS
VENULES/VEINLETS- SMALLEST VEINS

Excretory system
-organ system that makes
up an organism. It is made
up of different organs that
help the body eliminate
metabolic wastes and
maintain internal
balance. These include a
pair of KIDNEYS.
Kidneys- made up of smaller
parts that eliminate wastes
that are no longer needed by
the body.

Organs are made up of tissues. The
heart, kidneys, and the parts that make
them up are made up of tissues.
This tissue is made up of cells- the basic
unit of life.

Plants are also made up of organ systems:
Flowers are the reproductive organs of
plants.
Pistil: Ovary, Style and Stigma-female
part
Stamen: Filament and anther- male
part
Anther- hold the pollen grains

There are five level of organization:
CELL, TISSUES, ORGAN, ORGAN SYSTEM and ORGANISM
Cell- smallest unit of life.
Tissues- groups of cells with a common structure and function.
Four Types of Tissues
1.Epithelial tissue
2.Connective tissue
3.Muscular tissue
4.Nervous tissue
Organs- made up of tissues working together. ( Example: Heart, stomach, lungs,
skin)
Organ System- made up of different organs. (Example: Nervous System,
Respiratory System, Integumentary System)
Organism- many organ system makes up organism, highest level of organization
From lowest to highest
CELL- TISSUES- ORGANS-ORGAN SYSTEMS- ORGANISM
From highest to lowest
ORGANISM- ORGAN SYSTEM- ORGAN- TISSUES- CELL
