3. Placement test.
The purpose of placement test is to place a student into a particular level
or section of a language curriculum school or courses.
Example: this placement test is usually done in a course. This test is to find
the class that matches the abilities of the students.
4. Achievement test.
The purpose of achievement tests is to determine whether course
objectives have been met with skills acquired by the end of a period of
instruction.
Example: The learners have finish units 1-4 of the book and teacher now give
them an achievement test based on what they have seen in these units. The
test is taken from the teacher’s book.
The test has objective:
1) To help the teachers judge the success of their teaching.
2) To identify the weaknesses of their learners.
A. Based on Purposes
Language aptitude tests usually consist of several different test items which
measures such abilities as:
Sound-coding ability, is the ability to identify and remember new sounds
in a new language.
Grammar-coding ability, is the ability to identify the grammatical
functions of different parts of sentences.
Inductive-learning ability, is the ability to work out meanings without
explanation in the new language.
Memorization, is the ability to remember and to recall words, patterns,
rules in the new language.
