THE PAST PERFECT TENSE

Read the information in the box. Then look at the example below.

The concert had (already) started


when /by the time/ we arrived.

1. Both actions happened in the past.

2. Arrived happened later; Started happened earlier.

3. To talk about a past action which happened before


another past action, use the Past Perfect (had done).
