3520 USEFUL INFORMATION

CALIBRATIONS
WIF (WATER IN FUEL)

30 SECONDS AFTER DETECTING WATER IN THE FUEL A FAULT CODE SHALL BECOME ACTIVE AND
THE WARNING LIGHT SHALL ILLUMINATE.

AFTER ONE HOUR ANOTHER FAULT CODE WILL BECOME ACTIVE AND THE STOP LIGHT SHALL
ILLUMINATE.

THE CODE WILL REMAINED STORED FOR 16 ENGINE START CYCLES OR UNTIL IT IS CLEARED
BY THE TOOL.

LOW ENGINE COOLANT

IF LOW COOLANT IS DETECTED FOR MORE THAN 7 SECONDS, A FAULTY CODE SHALL BECOME
ACTIVE AND THE STOP LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE.

AN ACTIVE FAULT CODE WILL REMAIN UNTIL THE KEY SWITCH IS TURNED OFF. A STORED
FAULT SHALL REMAINED FOR 16 ENGINE SYART CYCLES OR UNTIL IT IS CLEARED BY THE
TOOL.
AIR FILTER RESTRICTION
IF A RESTRICTED AIR FILTER IS DETECTED FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS, A FAULT CODE SHALL
BECOME ACTIVE AND THE WARNING LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE.

THE ACTIVE FAULT WILL PERSIST UNTIL THE KEY SWITCH IS TURNED OFF. A STORED CODE WILL
REMAIN FOR 16 ENGINE START CYCLES OR UNTIL IT IS CLEARED BY THE TOOL.

LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE DETECTION


IF THE BATTERY POTENTIAL DROPS BELOW 10.5 VOLTS FOR MORE THAN 15 SECONDS, A FAULT
CODE WILL BECOME ACTIVE AND THE WARNING LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE. THIS FAULT WILL
REMAIN ACTIVE UNTIL THE BATTERY VOLTAGE RISES ABOVE 10.5 VOLTS FOR 10 SECONDS.

THE STORED FAULT WILL REMAIN FOR 16 ENGINE START CYCLES OR UNTIL IT IS CLEARED BY
THE TOOL.

HYDRAULIC FILTER DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE

IF A RESTRICTED HYDRAULIC FILTER IS DETECTED FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS, A FAULT CODE
WILL BECOME ACTIVE AND THE WARNING LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE. THE ACTIVE FAULT WILL
REMAIN FOR 10 SECONDS AFTER THE RESTRICTION IS NO LONGER REGISTERED.

THE STORED FAULT WILL REMAIN FOR 16 ENGINE START CYCLES OR UNTIL IT IS CLEARED BY
THE TOOL.
BASECUTTER / FEEDROLLERS
THE BASECUTTER / FEEDROLLER CONTROL PROVIDES LOGIC TO PREVENT EXCESSIVE PRESSURE ON
THE BASECUTTER AND FEEDROLLER HYDRAULIC CIRCUITS BY INHIBITING OPERATOR ACTIONS THAT
WOULD CAUSE EXCESSIVE SURGE PRESSURES.

THIS CONTROL PREVENTS ENGAGEMENT OF THE BASECUTTER AND FEEDROLLER WHEN THE ENGINE
EXCEEDS 1490 RPM. THIS OPERATION ALSO PROVIDES A 5 SECOND DELAY WHEN CHANGING
DIRECTIONS.

NOTE : THERE IS NO LONGER A DELAY WHEN YOU FIRST ENGAGE THE BASECUTTER FROM THE NUETRAL
SWITCH POSITION. THE DELAY WILL APPEAR WHEN YOU ARE CHANGING FROM THE FORWARD TO
REVERSE MODE OR VICE VERSA.

HYDRAULIC OIL TEMPERATURE

IF A TEMPERATURE BETWEEN 200°F AND 215°F IS REGISTERED FOR OVER 30 SECONDS A FAULT CODE
WILL BECOME ACTIVE AND THE WARNING LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE.

IF A TEMPERATURE ABOVE 215°F IS REGISTERED FOR MORE THAN 15 SECONDS, A FAULT CODE
WILL BECOME ACTIVE AND THE STOP LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE AND A ENGINE DERATE WILL OCCUR.

STORED FAULTS WILL REMAIN FOR 16 ENGINE STARTS OR UNTIL IT IS CLEARED BY THE TOOL.
LOW HYDRAULIC OIL

IF LOW HYDRAULIC OIL IS DETECTED FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS, A FAULT CODE SHALL BECOME
ACTIVE AND THE STOP LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE.

THE ACTIVE FAULT WILL REMAIN FOR 3 SECONDS AFTER THE LOW OIL IS NO LONGER
REGISTERED.

IF THE FAULT IS ACTIVE FOR MORE THAN 15 SECONDS, ANOTHER FAULT CODE WILL BE LATCHED
ACTIVE AND THE BASECUTTER WILL SHUTDOWN UNTIL THE KEY SWITCH IS CYCLED.

BOTH STORED FAULTS SHALL REMAIN FOR 16 ENGINE START CYCLES OR UNTIL IT IS CLEARED
BY THE TOOL.
ENGINE CONTROL UNIT (ECU)
BATTERY POWER IS WIRED INTO THE UNSWITCHED POWER INPUT OF THE ECU THROUGH A 20A
FUSE. ALL ECU OPERATING CURRENT IS DRAWN FROM THE UNSWITCHED POWER INPUT.

THE SWITCHED POWER INPUT TO THE ECU IS USED TO START THE ECU FROM A POWER DOWN
CONDITION AND TO INDICATE THAT THE ENGINE SHALL BE ALLOWED TO OPERATE.

REMOVING THE SWITCHED POWER INPUT TO THE ECU WILL CAUSING THE ENGINE TO BE
SHUTDOWN WITHIN 50 MILLI SECONDS AND START THE ECU TO POWER DOWN. THE ECU WILL
REMAIN RUNNING FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS AFTER SWITCH POWER IS REMOVED AND
THE ENGINE STOPS ROTATING.
DIAGNOSTIC TESTS

COMPRESSION TEST
THIS FEATURE IS USED TO DETERMINE THE RELATIVE COMPRESSION OF EACH CYLINDER.
THE ENGINE IS CRANKED WITH NO FUEL BEING PROVIDED.
WHAT YOU ARE ACTUALLY CHECKING IS THE STROKE SPEED FOR EACH CYLINDER. BY
COMPARING THE RESULTS, CYLINDERS WITH RELATIVELY LOW COMPRESSION CAN BE
IDENTIFIED.

CYLINDER CUTOUT / MISFIRE TEST


THIS FEATURE IS USED TO PROVIDE THE CAPABILITY TO CUT OUT FUEL TO INDIVIDUAL
CYCLINDERS FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
ELECTRONIC
INJECTOR
CALIBRATION
ELECTRONIC INJECTOR CALIBRATION
A CONNECTION MUST BE MADE WITH SERVICE ADVISOR. IN THE CALIBRATION TAB, SELECT
INJECTOR CALIBRATION.

THE SCREEN WILL SHOW A TABLE OF THE EXISTING INJECTOR INFORMATION THAT IS STORED IN THE
ECU.

OPTIONS TO PERFORM : SWAP INJECTORS – CHANGE INJECTORS – VIEW CALIBRATION HISTORY

SWAPPING INJECTORS

SWAPPING INJECTORS IS USED FOR TESTING SUSPECTED INJECTOR PROBLEMS ONLY. THIS IS
USED FOR MOVING INJECTORS FROM ONE CYLINDER TO ANOTHER TO SEE IF THE SYMPTOM
MOVES TO THE CYLINDER WITH THE INJECTOR.

INFORMATION IN THE ECU IS SPECIFIC FOR EACH INJECTOR AND THE CYLINDER THAT IT IS
INSTALLED.

WHEN INJECTORS ARE MOVED TO DIFFERENT CYLINDERS, THEN THE ECU NEEDS TO BE
UPDATED WITH THIS INFORMATION. THE INFORMATION FOR THE EXISTING INJECTORS ARE
ALREADY IN THE ECU, SO IT JUST HAS TO BE MOVED TO A DIFFERENT CYLINDER NUMBER.
THERE ARE PULL DOWN MENUS THAT ALLOW THE INJECTOR INFORMATION TO BE
TRANSFERRED FROM ONE CYLINDER TO AN OTHER.

SERVICE ADVISOR WILL DISPLAY THE ORIGINAL INJECTOR INFORMATION, AND THE NEW
INJECTOR INFORMATION AND ASK FOR CONFIRMATION BEFORE ACTUALLY MOVING THE
INJECTOR INFORMATION.
CHANGING INJECTORS
IF AN INJECTOR IS BEING REPLACED, THE INFORMATION FOR THAT NEW INJECTOR MUST BE LOADED
INTO THE ECU. THIS IS DONE BY SELECTING THE CHANGE INJECTOR BUTTON IN SERVICE ADVISOR.
THE SCREEN WILL DISPLAY A TABLE SHOWING THE EXISTING INFORMATION THAT IS STORED IN THE
ECU AND WILL HAVE PULL DOWN MENUS AVAILABLE IN THE SERIAL NUMBER FIELD IF THERE ARE
INJECTOR CALIBRATION FILES ON THE SERVICE ADVISOR COMPUTER.
WE WILL COVER DOWNLOADING INJECTOR FILES LATER IN THIS PROGRAM.

IF THE INJECTOR CALIBRATION FILE IS AVAILABLE ON THE COMPUTER, SELECT THE FILE THAT
CORRESPONDS WITH THE INJECTOR SERIAL NUMBER AND THE CYLINDER. THIS ACTION WILL
AUTOMATICALLY POPULATE ALL INFORMATION FIELDS FOR THAT CYLINDER.

IF THERE IS NO CALIBRATION FILES AVAILABLE ON THE SERVICE ADVISOR COMPUTER, THEN THE
INFORMATION FOR EACH FILE CAN BE ENTERED MANUALLY. IF THE SPECIFIC CALIBRATION FILE
FOR THE INJECTOR WAS NOT DOWNLOADED, SELECT UNLISTED AND THE DATA FIELD WILL
ALLOW THE INFORMATION TO BE ENTERED MANUALLY. ONCE ALL THE INJECTOR INFORMATION
HAS BEEN UPDATED, CLICK THE NEXT BUTTON. VERIFY THAT THE DATA ENTERED IS CORRECT
AND CLICK ON THE SUBMIT BUTTON.

VIEW CALIBRATION HISTORY


ANYTIME AN INJECTOR CALIBRATION IS PERFORMED WITH SERVICE ADVISOR A HISTORY IS
KEPT FOR VIEWING. THIS HISTORY INCLUDES ANY INJECTOR CHANGES FROM THE PAST. THIS
INFORMATION IS ONLY KEPT ON THE COMPUTER THAT PERFORMED THE INJECTOR
CALIBRATION PROCEDURE. IF MULTIPLE COMPUTERS ARE USED, NOT ALL THE INFORMATION
WILL BE IN ONE HISTORY REPORT.
DOWNLOADING ELECTRONIC INJECTOR CALIBRATION FILES
NOTE: THIS PROCEDURE REQUIRES AN INTERNET CONNECTION.

ELECTRONIC INJECTORS IN THE 6090 ENGINE HAVE SPECIFIC SETTING FOR OPTIMUM
PERFORMANCE. TO MAINTAIN THIS PERFORMANCE, WHEN ANY OF THE ELECTRONIC INJECTORS
ARE REPLACED OR SWAPPED THE ECU WILL NEED TO BE PROGRAMED WITH THE CORRECT
SETTING FOR CYLINDER.
