1. Projectile motion is a form of motion
experienced by an object or particle that is thrown
near the Earth's surface and moves along a curved
path under the action of gravity. This curved path
was shown by Galileo to be a parabola.

2. If an object is projected upwards in a perfectly
vertical direction, then it will slow down as it rises
upward. The instant at which it reaches the peak of
its trajectory, its velocity is 0m/s.

GREEN flag
3. A projectile must be moving
in the downward direction.

4. The vertical velocity of a projectile
increases on the way down?

5. -9.8 m/s2 is the vertical
acceleration of a projectile.

INVESTIGATING
MOMENTUM
Momentum is a property of a moving body
possesses by virtue of its mass and velocity. It is
equal to mass multiply to velocity and the SI unit is
Kg.m/s2
Formula for momentum:
Wherein:
P= Momentum
M= Mass
V= Velocity
IF YOU ARE LOOKING EQUATION TO USE IF THE VALUES ARE
FOR GIVEN

Momentun P=mv Mass and Speed

Mass M=p/v Momentum and

Velocity
Velocity V=p/m Momentum and
Mass
Example Problem:
A bowling ball whose mass is 4.0 kg is
rolling at a rate of 2.5 m/s. What is its
momentum?
GIVEN:
m= 4.0 kg Solution:
v=2.5 m/s P=4.0 kg (2.5 m/s)
P=?
P= 10 kg.m/s
Formula: P=mv
Impulse is the amount of force and time required to cause
a change in the momentum. It is related to the Newton’s
Law of Acceleration; from this, the formula Ft=ΔP. Thus,
the greater the momentum, the greater the force needed to
change it, and the longer the period of time over wh ich it
must be applied. The SI unit of impulse is the newton
second (N. s).

Wherein:

I=Ft I= Impulse
F= Force
T= Time

2. A skateboard is rolling at a velocity
of 3.0 m/s with a momentum of 6.0
kg-m/s. What is its mass?
Given: Given:
p=6.0 kg.m/s M= 20 kg, 6kg
v=3.0 m/s V= 4m/s
M=? P= ?
Formula:
B M= P/V P=mvFormula:

Solution: A
Solution:
m=6.0
P= 20kg + 6kg kg.m/s / 3.0 m/s
(4m/s)
Answer:
P= 104 kg. M/s =2 kg
Did you know that…….
Impulse and momentum is very important in the safety
of passengers. Modern cars have safety features that
lengthen the amount of time momentum changes
during a collision. These safety features are air bags,
padded dashboard, and crumple zones. Crumple
zones] are the one that deforms in the event of crash. It
can absorb energy of the impact, preventing it from
being transmitted to the occupants.
