How did tipu Sultan become king?

✣ After Hyder Ali died in the year 1782, Tipu


became the new ruler of Mysore.
✣ He had already fought in two victories war-the
first Anglo Mysore and the second Anglo Mysore
War, under the leadership of his father.

Who were his main allies and enemies?
✣ He knew that British forces were a great threat to his kingdom.
He therefore focused more on military advances especially
Mysorean rockets which were successfully used by his father in
the second Anglo Mysore war against the British.
✣ Napoleon Bonaparte, the French commander-in-chief, sought an
alliance with Tipu Sultan.
✣ Both Tipu Sultan and his father used their French-trained army in
alliance with the French in their struggle with the British, and in
Mysore's struggles with other surrounding powers, against the
Marathas, Sira, and rulers of Malabar, etc.

the reign of Tipu sultan
✣ Tipu Sultan became the ruler of Mysorean December 22, 1782. The
Second Anglo-Mysore War dragged on through 1783 and into the early
part of 1784.

✣ The Second Anglo–Mysore War was a conflict between the Kingdom of


Mysore and the British East India Company from 1780 to 1784.
✣ At the time, Mysore was a key French ally in India, and the conflict
between Britain against the French and Dutch in the American
Revolutionary War sparked Anglo–Mysorean hostilities in India .

What happened in the 4 Anglo Mysore wars?.
✣ . At age 15, he accompanied his father against the British in the First Mysore
War in 1766.
✣ The Second Anglo–Mysore War was a conflict between the Kingdom of
Mysore and the British East India Company from 1780 to 1784. At the time,
Mysore was a key French ally in India, and the conflict between Britain
against the French and Dutch in the American Revolutionary War sparked
Anglo–Mysorean hostilities in India.
✣ The Third Anglo–Mysore War (1790–1792) was a conflict in South India
between the Kingdom of Mysore and the East India Company and its allies,
including the Maratha Empire and the Nizam of Hyderabad. It was the third
of four Anglo–Mysore Wars.

✣ Following were the results of the Third Anglo-Mysore War: At the
conclusion of the War in 1792, the Treaty of Seringapatnam was signed
between Tipu Sultan and the English East India Company.
✣ Tipu Sultan was forced to cede half his kingdom to the trio of the British,
the Marathas and the Nizam.
✣ The Fourth Anglo–Mysore War was a conflict in South India between the
Kingdom of Mysore against the British East India Company and the
Hyderabad Deccan in 1798–99. This was the final conflict of the four
Anglo–Mysore Wars. The British captured the capital of Mysore. The
ruler Tipu Sultan was killed in the battle.

How did tipu sultan die?
✣ Fourth Anglo-Mysore war proved to be the end of Tipu Sultan’s rule. This battle
started when Tipu Sultan again took help from the French and stared to revitalize
his forces which were considered as violation of treaty and made British attack Mysore
in 1798.
✣ Due to treacherousness of his officials and unavailability of proper French support inflicted annihilating defeat
upon Tipu and his forces.
✣ He died martyred while fighting in May 1799 in the gateway of Seringapatam.
✣ Tipu Sultan was killed at the Hoally (Diddy) Gateway, which was located 300 yards (270 m) from the N.E.
Angle of the Srirangapatna Fort. [36]  He was buried the next afternoon at the  Gumaz , next to the grave of his
father.
✣ He was given proper burial ceremony by the company officials.
✣ Tipu Sultan was an enlightened ruler treated his Hindu subjects with open mind.
