Presented by: Luisa Fernanda delgado,

José Sebastián Vergara.
Biography
Henri Fayol (1841-1925) was an engineer and business
theoretician, who was born on July 29, 1841 in
Constantinople (Istanbul), into a bourgeois family. He died on
November 19, 1925 in Paris at the Age of 84. He studied
at the Lycee in Lyon from 1856 to 1858. Fayol graduated as
a civil mining engineer in 1860, when he was only 19 years
old. He worked as a mining engineer, specifically at the
Commentry Fourchambault Corporation. He was hired by
Stéphane Mony and he joined the company as an engineer and
apprentice manager. Mony made Fayol his protégé, and Fayol
succeeded him as manager of the Commentry Mine and finally
as managing director of Commentry-Fourchambault and
Decazeville.
In 1872 he was general manager of the Commentry, Montirco
and Berry Mine Group. Fayol made changes to improve work
situations at the mines, such as allowing employees to work as
a team, and changing the division of labor. Later, more mines
were added to their tasks. His success was such that he
managed to acquire for the Commentry-Fourchambautl
company, the mines of Bressac, those of Decazeville, as well
as those of Joudreville, he was known for having formulated
the Classical Theory of Management. This theory, known as
Fayolism after it´s author, became the basis of modern
methodology in organizations and companies. Fayol believed
that every company or organization should fulfill five
functions and fourteen principles.
