M.Tech FINAL THESIS - Review , School of Mechanical Engineering

PLASTIC MODULAR BELTS

• Plastic modular belts are constructed using injection-molded modules

and hinge rods, plastic sprockets are used for positively driving and
tracking of plastic modular belts which eliminates slippage, prevents
damage to the belt’s edge or premature failure of belt.
• The three different plastic injection-molded modules are; PP
(polypropylene), PE (polyethylene) & POM (Acetal).
• The reason behind the use of plastic modular belts is that they are low
maintenance, non-porous thermoplastics, contoured easy to clean
surfaces and easy repair. Other benefits of plastic modular belts are
higher strength, lower weight, and lower belt to product friction levels.

M.Tech FINAL THESIS - Review , School of Mechanical Engineering

PLASTIC MODULAR BELTS

• Repairing of modular design of plastic modular belts is easy because

no specialized tools are required.
• Any damaged modules can easily be replaced by simply extracting
the adjacent plastic rods without the need to remove the entire belt
from the conveyor structure.
• Plastic modular conveyors are equipped with plastic sprockets and
shafts for drives.
• Figure represents Flush Grid Type belt.

PP MODULAR ELEVATOR
Calculation
Given:-
Bulk density (ρ) – 620 kg/m3
Belt width (B) – 700mm
Belt Speed (V) – 5 m/min to 18 m/min
Conveyor inclination – 30˚
Solution:-
Capacity of conveyor (Q) is given by,
Q = A * V * 3600 * ϕ m3/hr. …………………. (1)[Ref 8]
Where,
A = Cross sectional area of belt.
Φ = Effective degree of filling.
Now,
A = 0.25 * tan β * [B] 2 …………………….. [Ref 8]
Where,
β = Surcharge angle = 10˚
M.Tech FINAL THESIS - Review , School of Mechanical Engineering
PP MODULAR ELEVATOR

Therefore,
A= 0.25 * tan 10 * [0.7] 2 = 0.0216 m2 …………………. (2)
From equation (1) we have,
Q = A * V * 3600 * ϕ
Here ϕ = ϕ1 * ϕ2

ϕ1 = 1 & ϕ2 = 0.56 ………..…… [Ref 8]

Therefore,
Q = 0.0216 * 0.0833 * 3600 * 0.56 = 3.6288 m3/hr.
Now Mass Capacity of conveyor (M) is given by,
M=Q*ρ
M = 3.6288 * 620 = 2250 m3/hr.
Therefore, Mass Capacity of conveyor (M) = 2 ton/hr. …………………….. (3)

Pscrapers = 0.3 * B * V = 0.3 * 0.7 * 0.3 = 0.063 KW ………………….. (8) [Ref 8]
Pmaterial = 0.16 * V * Lf = 0.16 * 0.3 * 0.7 = 0.0336 KW ………………….(9) [Ref 8]

PP MODULAR ELEVATOR

•P
discharge = 1.5 * B * V = 1.5 * 0.7 * 0.3 = 0.315 KW ………………….. (10) [Ref 8]
Therefore,
From (6), (7), (8), (9) & (10) we have,
P3 = 0.45 + 0.063 + 0.0336 + 0.315 = 0.8616 KW ………………….. (11)
Hence, from (4), (5) & (11)
PT = 0.0397 + 0.0109 + 0.8616 = 0.9122 KW

VIBRATOR MACHINE

• Vibrator machine is constructed using stainless steel (SS304).

• Vibrator machine consists of two vibration motors attached to the
structure as shown in figure.
 Vibrator motor
• The Eccentric Rotating Mass (ERM) motor is the most common type
of vibration motor.
• ERM consists of an offset mass attached to the shaft of DC motor.
• As the motor rotates, the centripetal force of the offset mass is
asymmetric, creating a net centrifugal force, causing a displacement
of the motor.
• This rapid displacements are known as vibration.

 P2 = Power of lift (or fall) given by,

•
P3 = Sum of additional power for trippers, skirtboard friction, ploughs. ….. [Ref 8]
From [Ref 8] we have
CB = width factor = 133 kg/m.
CL = length factor = 555 m-1.
kf = service factor = 1.17
H = conveyor elevation = 0.1745 m.
V = maximum belt speed = 18 m/min.
Now,
P1 =

P1 = = 0.0645 KW ……………….. (6)

P2 =

P2 = = 9.5094 * 10-4 KW ………………….. (7)

M.Tech FINAL THESIS - Review , School of Mechanical Engineering

BLANCHER

For P3 we have,

P3 = PTrippers + Pscrapers + Pmaterial +Pdischarge …………….. (8)[Ref 8]

PTrippers = 1.5 * V = 1.5 * 0.3 = 0.45 KW …………….. (9)[Ref 8]

Pscrapers = 0.3 * B * V = 0.3 * 1 * 0.3 = 0.09 KW …………….. (10) [Ref

8]
Pmaterial = 0.16 * V * Lf = 0.16 * 0.3 * 1 = 0.048 KW …………….. (11) [Ref 8]

Pdischarge = 1.5 * B * V = 1.5 * 1 * 0.3 = 0.45 KW …………….. (12) [Ref 8]

Therefore,
From (8), (9), (10), (11) & (12) we have,
P3 = 0.45 + 0.09 + 0.048+ 0.45 = 1.038 KW ……………….. (13)
Hence, from (6), (7) & (13)
PT = 0.0645 + 9.5094 * 10-4 + 1.038 = 1.1034 KW

CHILLER

• Chiller as name suggests is used for chilling purposed.

• Chiller is constructed using stainless steel (SS304) and pp
modular belt.
• Chiller has cold water spraying nozzles as shown in figure.
• Chiller consist of 2 HP geared motor which drives belt at 1
m/min to 18 m/min.
• An inspection hole is provided on chiller as shown in figure.

CALCULATION
Given:-
Bulk density (ρ) – 620 kg/m3
Mass Capacity of Conveyor (M) – 2 Ton/ hr.
Belt Speed (V) – 1 m/min to 18 m/min
Length of conveyor –5m
Solution:-
Capacity of conveyor (Q) is given by,
Q = A * V * 3600 * ϕ m3/hr. …………………. (1)[Ref 8]
Where,
A = Cross sectional area of belt.
Φ = Effective degree of filling.

M.Tech FINAL THESIS - Review , School of Mechanical Engineering

CHILLER

We
•   know that,
M=Q*ρ
Therefore, Q = = = 3.2258 m3/hr. ………………. (2)
Now,
From (1) & (2)
A = = = 0.0538 m2 …………………. (3)
Here ϕ = ϕ1 * ϕ2
ϕ1 = 1 & ϕ2 = 1 ………………….. [Ref 8]
We know,
A = 0.25 * tan β * [B] 2 ……………….. (4) [Ref 8]
Where,
β = Surcharge angle = 10˚

CHILLER

Therefore,
•   from (3) & (4)
0.0538 = 0.25 * tan 10 * [B] 2
B = 1000 mm …………………. (5)
