What is AutoCAD?
• AutoCAD is a CAD (Computer Aided Design or Computer Aided
Drafling) software applicatlon for ZD and 3D design and drafting. It is
developed and sold by Autodesk. Inc. First released in December
1982, AutoCAD was one of the first CAD programs to run on personal
computers.
AutoCAD Window
Drawing Area
• The large area in the centre of the screen.
• This is where you draw.
• The size can be changed at any time.
Cross Hairs or Cursor
• The movement of the crosshairs is controlled by the mouse or
pointing device.
• Use to locate points, make selections and draw objects.
Command line
• The three lines at the bottom of the screen.
• This is where you enter commands and AutoCAD
will prompt you to input information.
• The number of lines visible can be changed.
Status Bar
• Displays your content settings.
• The settings can be turned on/off by clicking on the word/logos (SNAP,
GRID, ORTHO, POLAR etc.) or by function keys associated with each.
Toolbars
• We can see there is number of toolbar on the screen.
• The main toolbar which is located under the
menubar . These are the most frequently used
toolbars.
• Draw: Contains AutoCAD‘s most common drawing
tools.
• Dimension : AutoCAD provides a whole range of
dimensioning tools which can be used to quickly
dimension any drawing without the need for
measurement.
• Modify : AutoCAD provides a whole range of modify
tools such as Move, Copy ,Rotate and Mirror.
Co-ordinate System
• Everything that we draw in AutoCAD is exact.
• All objects drawn on screen is based on simple X-Y co-ordinate
system.
• In AutoCAD it is known as world co-ordinate system (WCS) .
Function Keys
• F1 HELP
• F2 FLIPSCREEN
• F3 OSNAP
• F4 TABLET
• F5 ISOPLANE
• F6 COORDINATE DISPLAY
• F7 GRID
• F8 ORTHO
• F9 SNAP
• F10 POLAR
• F11 OTRACK
Special Function Keys
• ESC : Canceles the current command, menu or dialogue
box.
• ENTER : Ends a command, or repeat a previous command
if the command line is blank.
• SPACE BAR : Same as the end key except when entering
text.
Drawing Objects :
1. LINE :
Command : Write L at command prompt or select from toolbar.
We can also draw lines by entering the co-ordinates of their end points
at the command prompt.
P1
2. CONSTRUCTION LINE :
P2
Command : Write XL at command prompt or choose from toolbar.
The constitution line command creates a line of infinite length which
passes through two picked points
Drawing Objects
3. RAY :
Command : Write RAY at command prompt or select from toolbar.
The ray command creates a line similar to a construction line except that it
extends infinitely in only one direction from the first pick point. The direction
of the Ray is determined by the position of the second pick point.
4. POLYLINE :
Command : Write PL at command prompt or select from toolbar.
Polylines differ from lines in that they are more complex objects. A single
polyline can be composed of a number of straight-line or arc segments.
Drawing Objects P2
5. RECTANGLE :
Command : Write REC at command prompt or select from
toolbar. P1
The Rectangle command is used to draw a rectangle
whose sides are vertical and horizontal. The position
and size of the rectangle are defined by picking two
diagonal corners.
6. POLYGON :
Command : Write POL or select from toolbar.
The polygon command can be used to draw any regular
polygon from 3 sides upto 1024 sides. This command
requires four inputs from the user.
Drawing Objects
7. DONUT :
Command : Write DO at command prompt or select from
toolbar.
This command draws a solid donut shape, actually it's just a
closed polyline consisting of two arc segments which have
been given a width.
8. REVCLOUD :
Command : Write REVCLOUD at command prompt or select from
draw toolbar.
The Revcloud command is used to draw a "freehand" revision
cloud or to convert any closed shape into a revision cloud.
Drawing Objects
9. CIRCLE :
Command : Write C at command prompt or select from
toolbar.
The Circle command is used to draw circles. There are a
number of ways you can define the circle. The default
method is to pick the centre point and then to either pick a
second point on the circumference of the circle or enter the
circle radius at the keyboard.
10. ARC :
Command : Write ARC at command prompt or select
from toolbar.
The Arc command allows you to draw an arc of a circle.
There are numerous ways to define an arc, the default
method uses three pick points, a start point, a second point
and an end point.
Drawing Objects
11. SPLINE :
Command : Write SPL at command prompt or select from toolbar.
A spline is a smooth curve that is fitted along a number of control
points.
12. ELLIPSE :
Command : Write EL at command prompt or select from
toolbar.
The Ellipse command gives you a number of different creation
options. The default option is to pick the two end points of an axis
and then a third point to define the eccentricity of the ellipse.
The ellipse command can also be used to draw isometric circles.
Drawing Objects
13. REGION :
Command : Write RED at command prompt or select from toolbar.
A region is a surface created from objects that form a closed shape,
known as a loop. The Region command is used to transform objects
into regions rather than actually drawing them.
14. MULTILINE :
Command : Write ML at command prompt or select from toolbar.
The Multiline command is used to draw multilines. This process of
drawing is pretty much the same as drawing polylines, additional line
segments are added to the multiline as points are picked. As with
polylines, points can be unpicked with the Undo option and multilines
can be closed.
Modify Objects
1. ERASE :
Command : Write E at the command prompt or select from modify toolbar.
The command erases (deletes) any selected object(s) from the drawing.
2. COPY :
Command : Write CP at the command prompt or select from modify
toolbar.
The Copy command can be used to create one or more duplicates of any
drawing object or objects which you have previously created.
Modify Objects
3. MIRROR :
Command : Write MI at the command prompt or select from modify
toolbar.
The Mirror command allows you to mirror selected objects in your
drawing by picking them and then defining the position of an
imaginary mirror line using two points.
Modify Objects
4. OFFSET :
Command : Write O at the command prompt or select from modify
toolbar.
The Offset command creates a new object parallel to or
concentric with a selected object. The new object is drawn at a
user defined distance (the offset) from the original and in a
direction chosen by the user with a pick point.
Modify Objects
5. ARRAY :
Command : Write AR at the command prompt or
select from modify toolbar.
The Array command makes multiple copies of
selected objects in a rectangular matrix (columns
and rows) or a polar (circular) pattern.
Modify Objects
6. MOVE :
Command : Write M at the command prompt or select from modify
toolbar.
The Move command works in a similar way to the
Copy  command except that no copy is made, the selected
object(s) is simply moved from one location to another.
Modify Objects
7. ROTATE :
Command : Wrute RO at the command prompt or select from modify
toolbar.
The Rotate command allows an object or objects to be rotated
about a point selected by the user. AutoCAD prompts for a
second rotation point or an angle which can be typed at the
keyboard.
Modify Objects
8. SCALE :
Command : Write SC at the command prompt or select from modify
toolbar.
The Scale command can be used to change the size of an object
or group of objects. You are prompted for a pick point about
which the selection set will be scaled
Modify Objects
9. STRETCH :
Command: Write S at the command prompt or select from modify
toolbar.
The Stretch command can be used to move one or more vertices
of an object while leaving the rest of the object unchanged.
Modify Objects
10. TRIM :
Command: Write TR at the command
prompt or select from modify toolbar.
The Trim command can be used to trim a
part of an object.
11. EXTEND :
Command: Write EX at the command
prompt or select from modify toolbar.
The Trim command can be used to trim a
part of an object.
Modify Objects
12. LENGTHEN :
Command: Write LEN at the command prompt or select from modify toolbar.
The Lengthen command can often be used instead of either
theTrim  or Extend commands. Indeed the end result is exactly the same.
The Lengthen command can be used to either lengthen or shorten Lines,
Arcs, open Polylines, elliptical Arcs and open Splines without the use of
cutting or boundary edges.
13. CHAMFER :
Command: Write CHA at the command prompt or select from modify
toolbar.
The Chamfer command enables you to create a chamfer between any
two non-parallel lines.
Modify Objects
14. FILLET :
Command: Write F at the command prompt or select from modify
toolbar.
The Fillet command is a very useful tool which allows you to draw
an arc between two intersecting lines or adjacent polyline
segments.
Modify Objects
15. HATCH :
Command: Write H at the
command prompt or select from
the toolbar.
Hatching is used to highlight
perticular area such as
