SOIL T YPE

 Soil type : Loam soil

 Soil bearing capacity: 80-160 KN/m2

 Loam soil is great for supporting

foundations due to its evenly balanced
properties.

 Loam soil is also is well – drained which

leads to good growth of numerous plants

Fig. loam soil predominates the site due to the presence of vegetation
and trees.

COLLEGE OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
STRENGTHS
 Possibility of creating micro climate due to
usage of abundant vegetation and water
bodies.
 The trees can be used as wind breaker and the
floral vegetation can be used for landscaping.

 Visual connectivity: the elevated site provides a

good view of the surrounding areas.
Fig: wind breaker Fig: connected to main highway
 Connected to the main Thimphu - Phuntsholing
Highway.

 Easy access from the hostels

 Located away from the academic and

administrative area.

COLLEGE OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
WEAKNESSES
 Stench from the canteen
waste.

 Located near Staff residences.

 Shortage of water supply as

the source has leakage of Fig: marshy surrounding
water.

 Marshy surroundings
increases humidity of the site.

 Increased construction costs

due to steep topography. Fig: staff residences Fig: steep topography

OPPORTUNITIES

 Creativity can be incorporated on the sloped landform.

 The SAC can be blended with the surrounding environment.

 Usage of the site slope as an advantage.

THREATS
 Prone to landscape and soil
erosion.

 Presence of dense jungle at the

periphery of site adds threats
from wild animals.

 Storm water challenges will be

difficult to mitigate if proper Fig: prone to landscape Fig: dense jungle
strategies are not adopted.
(Clogging, marshes and
swamps)

 Maintenance of cleanliness due

to presence of bad odor and
drainage.
