WHAT IS NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY?
 Nuclear technology is technology that involves
the nuclear reactions of atomic nuclei. Among
the notable nuclear
technologies are nuclear reactors, nuclear medic
ine and nuclear weapons. It is also used, among
other things, in smoke detectors and gun sights.

HOW IS NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY
HARMFUL?
 A major environmental concern related to nuclear
power is the creation of radioactive wastes such as
uranium mill tailings, spent (used) reactor fuel, and
other radioactive wastes. These materials can remain
radioactive and dangerous to human health for
thousands of years.
COST. UNLIKE RENEWABLES, NUCLEAR COSTS ARE ON THE RISE,
AND MANY PLANTS ARE BEING SHUT DOWN OR IN DANGER OF
BEING SHUT DOWN FOR ECONOMIC REASONS. INITIAL CAPITAL
COSTS, FUEL, AND MAINTENANCE COSTS ARE MUCH HIGHER
FOR NUCLEAR PLANTS THAN WIND AND NUCLEAR PROJECTS
TEND TO SUFFER COST OVERRUNS AND CONSTRUCTION DELAYS.
