Definition
 Preventive pediatric is defined
as the prevention of disease
and promotion of physical,
mental and social well being of
children with the aim of
attaining a positive health.

1. Antenatal preventive pediatrics

Antenatal preventive pediatrics

 Care of antenatal mothers –


a. Adequate nutrition.
b. Prevention of communicable
disease.
c. Preparation for delivery and breast
feeding.
d. Mother craft training.
Postnatal preventive pediatrics

 Promotion of breast feeding.


 Introduction of complementary
feeding in appropriate age.
 Immunization.
 Prevention of accidents.
 Growth monitoring and periodic
health check up
Social preventive pediatrics

Definition – it is defined as the


application of principles of the
social medicine to pediatrics to
obtain a more complete
understanding of the problems of
the children in order to prevent
and treat disease and promote
adequate growth.
Preventive aspects

1. Prevention and control of


communicable diseases.
2. Early detection and correction of non
communicable diseases.
3. Early identification and education of
children with special disabilities.
4. Emergency care and first aid services.
