POOR IN SPIRIT
Two “poor”
• “penes” – poor without any extra. (2 Cor 9:9).
• “ptochos” – beggar. Lazarus, the beggar (Lke 16:20-21).
Ptochos is used. BEGGING!
Being a beggar spiritually is the gate pass to the
Kingdom of God.

• Spiritual Bankruptcy, Powerlessness, Emptiness.
• It is acknowledging that there is NO good in us to merit
us salvation from God.
• God – Reliance, God – Assurance, God – Sufficiency,
God – Dependence.
• The Beginning not End.

that I am not like other standing some distance
people: swindlers, unjust, away, was even unwilling
adulterers, or even like this to lift up his eyes to heaven,
tax collector. I fast twice a but was beating his breast,
week; I pay tithes of all that saying, ‘God, be merciful
