Operating Principle of the Filter
Filtration

• The plate pack is closed by means of the quick-action

cylinders and locked with locking pins

• The process slurry is pumped into the chambers, which are

formed between the plates when the plate pack closes

• The filtrate runs through the cloth and the grids into the
filter vat and further to the filtration outlets into the
discharge pipeline

• Solids begin to form a cake on the filter cloth

Operating Principle of the Filter
Diaphragm pressing

• Pressing water is led through the plate connections to

above the rubber diaphragms

• Water pressure presses the diaphragms against the cake,

whereby the liquid in the filter chambers is pressed
through the cloth

• Even, solid cake remains in the chambers

Operating Principle of the Filter
Cake air blowing

• Final drying of the cake is accomplished with

compressed air coming through the slurry pipe.

• Compressed air flows through the cake and minimizes

the moisture content to optimum while it lifts the
diaphragm and the pressing air flows to atmosphere

Operating Principle of the Filter
Cake discharge

• When drying stage has been completed and the plate

pack is fully opened the cloth driving device starts.

• The filter cake on the cloth is discharged from both

ends of the plate pack.

The Complete Cycle

• Filtration, pressing, cake washing, air drying and

discharge are the key steps of the cycle.

• However there are other steps which are necessary to

enable the filter to function.

• These include pipe washing, hose washing, distributor

drain, restart operations, pressure release, plate pack
opening and plate pack closing.
