Pneumatic Structures
These systems have air as the bearing systems thus they are called as
Pneumatic structures (Air structures).

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

1. LIGHT WEIGHT
2. SPAN
3. CHEAP
4. BUILD QUALITY
5. TEMPORARY

ADVANTAGES
• They give column free spaces.
• The structures are cost saving with guaranteed fixed overall
project cost.
• They have a short production time and rapid installation
properties.
• As these structures are demountable and therefore can be
resold, reconfigured, extended or relocated.
• They have more life span.
MATERIALS -
Membrane(envelope) -the membrane is the shell
of the structure.
Material :- fibreglass, polyster, nylon, plastic films,
coated fabric, woven metallic fabric, metallic foils.
Cables -the cables that are interweaved into the
membrane material offer anchorage and
stabilization.
anchors -the anchors keep the membrane from
lifting away.
Material :- steel cable,ballasts

BRIDGE
ABOUT -
•Long span (50m - 200m)
•Very strong, but also flexible
•Economical as allow a slender and lighter structure which is still able to
span large distances
•Light weight is an advantage in earthquake-prone areas
•Modern and simple design makes attractive and distinct landmarks
•Easy to build in segments where in-situ construction or cantilever launch
on rollers is not possible. This requires substantial piers and large
counterweights
•Less suitable for very windy places due to its lightness
 STEEL CABLE STAYED BRIDGE

Long Span Bridge

• A bridge is called a long span bridge if
the distance between the main towers is
over 1 kilometer.
• There are two types of long span
bridges: a suspension bridge and a
cable-stayed bridge.
