INTRODUCTION
* Which was more healthy between Plant and
Animal oils?
* What are lipids?
* Where are the good fats comes from?
* What is the difference of saturated oils and
unsaturated oils?
OBJECTIVES
1. Learn how to test for the unsaturated
character of plant oil,
2. Learn how to test for saturated character of
plant oil,
3. Understand the rate of unsaturated fatty
acids in our day to day living.
HYPOTHESIS

Saturated oils are solid in room temperature and

unsaturated oils are liquid in room temperature.

POST LABORATORY QUESTIONS
1. What are the most common fatty acids found in sunflower, corn,
coconut and canola oils?
2. What are the most common fatty acids founds in animals?
3. What are essentially fatty acids?
4. Using your results, which plant oils contain polyunsaturated fatty
acids?
5. What is meant by, a saturated oil? Unsaturated oil?
Polyunsaturated oil?
6. Why is it important to dissolve the oil in ethanol before adding
the bromine water?
7. Describe how the test you have carried out shows whether an oil
is saturated or unsaturated?
8. Why do you suppose the body is better at metabolizing
unsaturated oils and fats?
