The Role of a Fas Ligand-Induced Cytokine

Network in Metastasis
Meera Sayed
Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) are part of the tumour microenvironment

FIGURE????

MSCs have been shown to promote metastasis in multiple cancer types like
breast cancer.
MSC induce metastasis by secreting different cytokines

 These cytokines bind to tumour cells and induce metastasis.

FasL induces MSCs proliferation

 FasL which is known as CD95L, is

a member of the tumor necrosis
factor (TNF) family.

 Previous studies demonstrated that

Fas ligand (FasL) induces
proliferation of MSCs.
Aim and Hypothesis
 Hypothesis: Increased FasL levels, lead to MSC proliferation and consequently to
increased pro-metastatic factors, i.e. CCL2 in the tumour microenvironment.

 Aim: To identify tumour types with FasL-dependent MSC proliferation

Methods and Materials
Results

Insignificant
Significant
Conclusions

 We have identified 7 tumours out of 19 in which they are FasL-dependent

MSC proliferation.

 (When I finish the results, I will add the conclusion about CCL2, CCL5,CLL8
and IL6).
